Sunday
Weather
A little sunshine at the start of the day and at the end (mainly on the eastern side of the Island), but it will generally be much cloudier and a bit cooler than the previous days (max temp just 17-18°C on this occasion). The most noticeable change will be on the western side of the Island, because the wind will switch from a SE’ly to a W’ly by late morning and this will blow some coastal mist and fog patches into those areas. There is also the smallest chance of a shower, but as I say, just the smallest chance… thirsty gardens will probably have to wait until Monday.
Surf and the Water
A new swell should be with us by the end of the day... the waves increasing from about 1 foot at dawn to 3 feet by dusk. Unfortunately, by late morning, the wind will have flipped from offshore to onshore. It won’t be too strong though… only light force 3, so those evening waves should still be decent enough for some fun. Swimming conditions will be best along the north and west coasts early morning, but the east coast will be smoothest through the rest of the day. High water… 8.2m around 10am. Low water… 2.4m around 4:30pm.
Monday
Weather
Probably a few dry hours to facilitate the beginnings of your school/working days. However, by 10 or 11am, rain will have set in… light at first but increasingly heavy as it persists through the afternoon. By the end of the day, we will probably have received between 10 and 15mm, so puddles will be large and the ground will remain wet even though there should be no further rain through the late evening and night time. Winds will be fresh force 5 SSE’ly through the majority of the day and 15°C should be the top temperature.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 2-4 foot surf and some pretty decent windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions too. Swimming conditions will be best along the north and west coasts (especially when the tide is high). High water… 7.7m around 11am. Low water… 3.1m around 5pm.
Tuesday to Thursday
Weather
Brief isolated showers, which could be on the heavy side, punctuated by long spells of hazy sunshine. Winds will remain fresh force 5 SSE’ly, much like on Monday. The temperature not likely to climb any higher than 15°C, but sheltered areas should feel very pleasant in the sunshine… areas like Pleinmont, Richmond and Cobo spring to mind.
Surf and the Water
More exquisitely clean surf, but this time the waves will be 3-5 feet and the tidal range will be smaller, meaning that there will be a wealth of options through these beautifully long days. As for the swimming conditions, they will be best on the north and west coasts, but obviously in the more sheltered areas than the surfers choose. High tides will be around lunchtime (decreasing incrementally from 7.2m to 6.6m) and low tides will be around breakfast time and dinnertime.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
High pressure will bulge in from the Atlantic, elbowing the nearby low-pressure system (and associated showers) into Europe. This new spell of settled weather should be lovely and sunny but it won’t be quite as warm as the previous one, due to the winds being N’ly or NW’ly. On Friday, those winds will likely be moderate force 4 and the temperature will likely peak at 15°C again. However, if the winds fall light through the weekend, then we could nudge up to 16°C on Saturday and maybe 17°C on Sunday. On those days.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be a lot smaller and messier but the swimming conditions will become particularly lovely along the south coast. Low tides will be in the mid to late mornings. High tides will be in the mid to late afternoons (increasing incrementally from 6.8m to 7.5m).
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday morning…
