Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 22 May 2024

Thursday

Weather

A very similar day to the previous… starting rather cloudy, with showers either hitting the Islands or skirting very nearby, around dawn and breakfast time. By mid-morning, sunny spells should start to get the upper hand. Then, from early afternoon onward, it should be pretty solid sunshine until dusk. Winds will be just a tiny bit gentler than on Wednesday, but they will be blowing from a marginally cooler direction… NW’ly, which means that we will end up with more or less the same max temp of 16°C in most areas but 17°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

2-3 foot surf, with a light enough onshore wind for it to not be particularly messy. This also means that the north and west coasts will be ok for swimming. However, there’s no doubt that the water will be much much smoother on the south and east. Tides will be high around 7:15am and 7:30pm (8.3m and 8.5m respectively). Low tide will be around 1:30pm.

Friday

Weather

Sunny for the vast majority of the day, with very light winds indeed… just a force 2 SSW’ly through the morning and the afternoon, followed by a similarly gentle N’ly in the evening. This should lead to a max of about 17-18°C in most parts of the Island.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be cleaner but smaller… just 1 foot, so only really suitable for kids on foamies. Swimming conditions will be lovely in all locations. High tides will be around 7:50am and 8:10pm (8.5m and 8.7m respectively). Low tide will be around 2:10pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday will be rather cloudy but the light force 2-3 SE’ly breeze will bring pleasantly mild air to the Islands, resulting in a max of 19°C. Then, after a bit of overnight rainfall, Sunday will be quite a lot sunnier, but the breeze will veer W’ly… initially as light as on Saturday but eventually increasing to moderate force 4, preventing the temperature from climbing any higher than 18°C. All coasts should feel lovely and comfortable on Saturday, but the east coast will be noticeably warmer on Sunday.

Surf and the Water

Saturday’s surf should be 1-2 feet and clean, just a little bigger than Fridays, then Sunday’s should be 3-4 feet and a little choppier, making it just a little bigger than Thursday. Low tides will be in the early to mid-afternoons. High tides will be around breakfast time and dusk (varying between 8.5m to 8.7m).

Next Week

Weather

Apart from the hint of a shower or two on Monday and Friday, we are probably looking at a bone dry week, with high pressure brining plenty of sunshine most days. Initially the high will be centred over the Atlantic, meaning that we will have a moderate WNW’ly airflow over the Islands. However, as the week progresses, the high centre will transfer across France and Germany, causing our wind to change to a moderate ESE’ly. Temperatures will therefore be on an upward change, as the influence switches from the maritime to continental. Max temps will probably be in the mid to high teens Monday to Wednesday, then in the low twenties for Thursday and Friday.

Surf and the Water

The surf is very uncertain, but there is likely to be 1-2 feet most days… maybe a little bigger on Monday and Tuesday. Winds will generally be light, making for smooth swimming conditions. Tides reducing from Medium-large to medium-small… high water moving forward each day from mid-morning on Monday to early afternoon on Friday… low water similarly moving forward but from mid-afternoon to mid-evening.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday...
