Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 30/09/2019

Monday

Weather

Enjoy some dry and settled weather in the morning, possibly quite bright at first but increasingly grey towards lunchtime. The afternoon will then turn drizzly and the S’ly wind will pick up to fresh force 5 so it really won't feel too special anymore. By evening there could be some mist and hill fog and winds could be up to force 6. The big tide shouldn't be too bad though, because the wind will be veering SW’ly, which is pretty favourable direction for both the east coast and the west coast.

Surf and Tide

Gorgeously clean 4-foot waves on the west-coast. Best at dawn in a couple of places, then again at Vazon mid-morning and early evening. High water 10.2m at 8:30am. Low water 0.5m at 2:50pm.

Tuesday

Weather

After lots of heavy rain in the night, we will only be left with a scattering of showers through Tuesday. Admittedly, some of them could be heavy enough for thunder, but there might also be some pretty lengthy dry and sunny intervals. As for the winds, they will be a bit a variable because a low pressure centre will be moving pretty much over our heads. The most likely winds will be force 4-5 WSW’ly in the morning, veering to a force 3-4 N’ly later.

Surf and Tide

4-5 feet choppy west-coast waves. High water 10.1m at 9:10am. Low water 0.6m at 3:30pm.

Wednesday

Weather

The calmest and perhaps the finest day of the week however we will have a cool NNE’ly airflow, so temperatures will struggle to even rise over 15C. The breeze will only be a gentle force 3 though, so keep your jumper on and you should be pretty comfortable.

Surf and Tide

Some pretty clean 3-4 feet waves on the west coast (tide permitting) and possibly some pristine 2-footers on the south coast too. High water 9.7m at 9:50am. Low water 1m at 4:10pm (a perfect day to go to Lihou or down to Jaonnet Bay).

Thursday and Friday

It’s all about Hurricane Lorenzo. Current forecasts suggest that he will only just lose his Hurricane status a moment before hitting Ireland. So for us that means some big surf at the very least. This will probably turn up on Thursday evening and then be absolutely epic all day Friday. However, the weather is much less certain. Hopefully, Lorenzo will take a slight northward turn, dragging lovely warm tropical air over us but keeping us dry and giving us nothing more than a fresh SSE’ly wind. The less pleasant alternative, is that he will take a slight eastward turn and plough into the Channel with gales and very heavy rain. There's a lot of uncertainty right now so be sure to keep an eye on the updates.

The Weekend

Well there's little point in forecasting the weekend when there's so much uncertainty about what Lorenzo will do on Friday. Currently the most reliable models are suggesting that we will get the rough deal from Lorenzo on Friday, followed by a more pleasant day of rest on Saturday. I’ll go with that forecast for now, but take it with a pinch of salt because it will most probably change from one update to the next.

The next Forecast update should be with you on Tuesday or Wednesday.
