Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 16/10/2019

Wednesday

Weather

I don't get to say this very often, but the forecast for Wednesday actually seems to be improving. The worst of the rain will be clearing off eastwards, before most of us have even left the house. After that, a weather front will be wiggling around to the south of us, dropping rain from time to time on Jersey but mostly missing us. I'm not saying it's going to be bone dry, there will be a few further showers but that's not nearly as much as was previously expected and furthermore, the WNW’ly breeze is only going to be a light force 2-3.

Surf and Tide

Cleanish waves of about 6 feet on the west coast, and some pretty nice mid-tide 3-footers down at Petit Bot too. High water will be 9.1m at 8:40am, low water will be 1.9m at 3pm.

Thursday

Weather

By morning, the wind will have backed to a SW’ly direction and strengthened to force 4-5. Skies should be sunny through mush the day, but there will be the odd gusty shower sweeping through and the later it gets, the heavier these are likely to be.

Surf and Tide 6.8m at 4pm.

Pretty clean 6-footers on the west coast again, and maybe some fun 2-footers on the north. High water will be 8.9m at 9:10am, low water will be 2.1m at 3.30pm.

Friday

Weather

SW’ly winds again, but this time strong force 6 and even more gusty around showers. The showers will be more frequent so the sunshine won't get so much of a look-in. To seek shelter, head towards Pleinmont if you’re on the west coast. If you're on the east coast, then Fermain is probably going to be the best place to go for a walk or a run.

Surf and Tide

Definitely a day for windsurfers and kite surfers, although it's not advisable if those showers turn out to be thundery. As for the swell, that's gong to be a stonking 8-10 feet out west, and hopefully 3-4-feet on the north. High water will be 8.7m at 9:40am, low water will be 2.4m at 4pm.

The Weekend

Staying showery on both days but with winds a tad gentler than on Friday; generally fresh force 5 WSW’ly on Saturday with a top temp of 15C, veering to a cooler WNW’ly on Sunday, probably only peaking at 14C. Good visibility, so fliers shouldn't have any problem getting on and off the rock. If you're on the ferry then you should also be fine, but the seas will be a bit bumpy and choppy I'm afraid.

Next Week

Definitely an improvement on this week's weather. The showers should die off on Monday morning, as high pressure starts to build over the Channel. Tuesday then looks fine and sunny and there's a good chance that the rest of the week will be similar, as any approaching weather-fronts are likely to be very weak

The next forecast update should be with you on Thursday evening of Friday morning.
