So the heavy rain on Wednesday cut the week in half, with the really chilly air before it and the milder air after it. Furthermore, the surf took a turn for the better, so despite the copious rain, there are a couple of small positives to be taken. However, I'm afraid we are still in for a very rough ride this weekend, so read on for the details…
Friday
Weather
The mildest day of the week so far, with force 5-6 SW’ly winds bringing drizzle and murk through the first half of the morning, followed by sunshine, showers and rainbows later. Temps should generally max out at 16C but Town could easily stretch to 17C.
Surf and Tide
Occasionally cleanish 3-4 foot waves at Vazon and Portinfer. High water will be 9m at 8:50am, low water will be 1.2m at 3:20pm.
Saturday
Weather
All week, the uncertainty of this weekend’s forecast has made it hard to pick which day will be windiest and therefore the worst for all the returning half-term holiday travellers. Well now that it's coming into sharper focus, it seems that Saturday will probably be the nastiest, with gale force WSW’ly winds in the most exposed parts of the island and severe gales likely mid-Channel. Seas will obviously become very rough indeed. Air traffic should fair a bit better, because the wind direction is a good one, but they aren't likely to be the smoothest of rides. Rainfall will be a bit on and off (probably more off than on), with some lengthy bright spells likely. Max daytime temps should be 16C in most parts, with min temps only a couple of degrees below that.
Surf and Tide
Absolutely epic windsurfing conditions (experts only). As for the waves; a big frothy cauldron n the west coast, but possibly rideable around high water in the southern half of Vazon. Maybe something smaller and cleaner at L’Ancresse but that wind will make it very difficult. High water will be 8.5m at 9:30am, low water will be 2.7m at 3:50pm.
Sunday
Weather
Winds will probably ease off a little bit, but they will still be strong force 6 W’ly and the ferries have already been cancelled I believe. As for the weather; sunshine and showers.
Surf and Tide
Cleanish 3-4 foot waves again. High water will be7.8m at 10:10am, low water will be 3.4m at 4:40pm
Next Week
Another largely foul week. New low pressure systems will move in with lots of cloud, rain and mild SSW’ly winds. The first will be on Monday and the second will be late Wednesday/ early Thursday. The other times look as though they will be sunnier, but cooler, with NNW’ly breezes and occasional passing showers. At this time, none of the winds are looking quite as severe as at the weekend, so hopefully the ferry crossing should et back on track. As for the surf; tides will be lovely and small and there should be some pretty decent waves on most days.
The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
