Wednesday
Weather
Some brightness possible through the first half of the morning. Given that the wind will be just a really light NW’ly (just a force 2), it should feel relatively pleasant compared to recent times. However, it’s unlikely to last even until lunchtime, before skies become cloudier and showers fairly frequent. Then in the evening, winds will increase and back SW’ly for a time, whilst the showers merge into a band of persistent rain.
Surf and Tide
Reasonably clean 3-5 feet waves on the west coast. The tidal movements are very small right now, with just a 6.8m high at 2pm.
Thursday
Weather
A straight-forward day of passing heavy showers, with sunny intervals and rainbows. There could be some hail and thunder and temperatures will only be 11C at best. Winds will be force 5 to 6 WSW’ly, so the most comfortable places will be around Town and down at Fermain.
Surf and Tide
Jumping up to 6-8 feet on the west coast, and perhaps 2-3 feet on the north. The waves getting cleaner as the day goes on, so with a 7.2m high at 3:10pm the afternoon will definitely be the best time to go.
Friday
Weather
Perhaps the driest and finest day of the week but still rather cold, with moderate NNE’ly winds unlikely to allow temperatures over 11C. Certainly the loveliest parts of the island will be in the shelter of the south-coast cliffs.
Surf and Tide
Much like Tuesday was, the south coast could really be great, with more clean 3 footers at Petit Bot and 4-5 footers at Petit Port through the middle of the day. Low water will be 3.5m at 10am and high water 7.7m at 4pm.
The Weekend
Back to the general story of heavy blustery showers, although with a spell of more persistent rain through the second half of Saturday and perhaps some prolonged dryness through the second half of Sunday. Winds will be SW’ly on Saturday morning, but otherwise fresh to strong NW’ly. Therefore, for the most part, the south coast will be the most sheltered and comfortable area again, along with some parts of the east coast too.
Next Week
No great shakes I’m afraid. Cold and occasionally wet weather will be in charge. The daily details are very uncertain but early indications suggest that the winds will be mostly light and from the north. If this does turn out to be the case, then effects might be that we see our first ground frosts, showers might be rather prolonged compared to those of this week. However, on the flip side, the dry spells might also be quite lengthy and the visibility should be mostly excellent.
The next update should be with you Thursday evening or Friday morning.
