Wednesday
Weather
The wind will be a force 4 to 5 ESE‘ly, which with some brightness in the morning and early afternoon should be great to dry a laundry load or two. Rain will come by evening rush-hour though, only light and patchy but enough warrant some rapid unpegging. Temperatures will be fairly steady day and night, always around 8-10°C.
Surf and the Water
Tides will be a very splash (especially on the east coast) 9.8m high at 8:15am and then low at 2:45pm. Swimming conditions will be best at L’Ancresse early morning, but the west-coast waves will be the main event, mainly for surfing but also good for windsurfing and kitesurfing… 5-6 feet and powerful at dawn, decreasing 3-4 feet by dusk.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Although roads may still be wet from Wednesday night’s rain (not to mention tidal splashing), we should have a dry morning rush hour. Thursday’s rain won’t arrive until around 10am but it will be pretty heavy and persistent for the rest of the day and for much of the evening too. Thursday night and then Friday will have a couple of showers here and there, possibly heavy but brief and few, therefore making that period much drier than Thursday daytime. Winds will be moderate force 4 for most of the period, perhaps easing to light force 3 on Thursday night, but sometimes getting up to fresh force 5 in the daytime. Thursday’s wind direction will be SE’ly, yielding temperatures of between 8-10°C. Friday’s wind direction will be SW’ly, which coupled with some sunny spells might take us up to 11 or 12°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean west-coast surf on Thursday, becoming semi-clean on Friday. The size will increase significantly though, from just 3 feet on Thursday to 6-8 feet on Friday, thus meaning that the north coast (albeit smaller) should also be an option on Friday. Sea-swimmers will find that the north coast will be best on Thursday morning and then the east coast on Friday. Thursday’s tides will be high around 9am and pm on Thursday (9.7m and 9.3m respectively) and low around 3:15pm. Friday’s tides will be high around 9:30am and pm (9.3m and 8.9m) and low around 3:45pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Sunshine and showers both days, but the showers being slightly more frequent on Saturday and only very isolated on Sunday. The wind will be an improving story too… force 5-6 SSW’ly dawn Saturday, decreasing moderate force 4 by the afternoon, then further decreasing light force 3 on Saturday night and occasionally light force 2 on Sunday. Temperatures probably peaking around 11°C both days, and falling to about 7°C both nights.
Surf and the Water
Clean 6 foot west-coast surf on Saturday, decreasing 4-5 feet on Sunday. Saturday morning will be best for windsurfing and kitesurfing, but the rest of the weekend will become increasingly suitable for sea-swimming, especially on the north coast. Tides will be medium-sized… high in the mid-mornings, low in the late afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
Wet and windy most days. More so than the previous week… the rain often showery but heavy, the wind often strong force 6 and closer to W’ly in direction rather than S’ly. Temperatures will generally reach daily maxima of around 10-12°C, and fall to nightly minima of 8-10°C… the east coast always feeling most comfortable.
Surf and the Water
Great windsurfing conditions on the north and west coasts, some reasonable swimming conditions on the east. Surfers will have choppier waves than the previous week but there will be some clean moments and the waves might often be big enough to light up the north coast, which will always be cleaner. The tidal range will be very small indeed, with high water in the late morning on Monday, then shuffling a little later each day, until by Friday high water will be in the late afternoon.
The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening...
