Saturday
Weather
A cold NNE’ly wind... fresh force 5 at dawn, light force 3 by dusk, will bring only the tiniest chance of a shower or two, whilst skies are a mixed bag of cloud and sunny breaks. Temperatures will peak at a mere 6°C by day, but the wind-chill will make it feel almost as cold as Christmas was. Overnight, which will gradually turn very wet, the temperature will briefly fall to about 3-4°C in the evening, before recovering to about 7°C by dawn. At all times, the most comfortable conditions will be found along the south coast.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 2-3 feet and choppy for most of the day, but possibly quite clean by dusk. If it’s swimming you fancy then the south coast will be best by far. Tides will be low around 11am and high around 5pm (7.1m).
Sunday
Weather
Force 3-4 SSW’ly winds will bring a full morning of rain, although the heaviest will have come before most people are awake. The afternoon will see much drier conditions, with just the chance of a few sunny intervals, but the wind will increase to a force 5-6 W’ly. The temperature, having recovered to about 11°C, so feeling more pleasant than any sunny breaks that Saturday had to offer, but it would definitely be worth heading in Town or Fermain for a bit of shelter.
Surf and the Water
The later the better if you’re a windsurfer or a kitesurfer. The earlier the better if you’re a surfer. Waves will be 4-6 feet, initially beautifully clean but soon turning choppy. Tides will be low around 11:40am and high around 5:40pm (7.9m).
Next Week
Weather
So many ups and downs, it seems to never end. Monday is a sunshine and showers day, with a fresh to strong WNW’ly only moderating very slowly. Tuesday then looks almost flat calm, as (under cloudy skies) it waits for Wednesday to return it to heavy rain and a strengthening SSW’ly wind. And finally Thursday and Friday look very similar to Monday, with brisk W’ly winds brining an alternating sequence of sunshine and showers. Average/mild air temperatures all the way, with daily maxima of 9-11°C and nightly minima of around 7-9°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be lovely and clean on Tuesday and Wednesday, but very messy on the other days. And there will be plenty of good windsurfing and kitesurfing opportunities on all days except Tuesday. Wave heights will generally be around 5-6 feet on those clean days, and quite a lot bigger on the others. Tides will be high around dawn and in the evening, increasing incrementally from around 8.4m on Monday to 9.5m by Friday. Low tides will be around lunchtime.
The next forecast update will be on Monday…
