Tuesday
Weather
Sunny and very warm for early April. Topping out around 22°C. The UV index is five around lunchtime, meaning that it’s a rare treat to have this kind of temperature without having to excessively protect yourself. However, this does depend on your skin type… If you have a particularly fair skin then it would be wise to wear sun hats and sun-cream. The wind will be force 3-4 ESE’ly, so the west coast will offer the greatest shelter and warmth, tucked in beside the sea walls.
Surf and the Water
Strong surf from a vey long-period swell… excellent for the more expert reefs. Wave heights will be between 4 and 8 feet in general. Swimming conditions will be lovely weather wise, although the coolness of the sea will be emphasised by the heat of the sun, so brace yourselves and stay safe. Tides will be 8m high at 10:10am, then low at 4:20pm.
Wednesday
Weather
Almost no wind, making it feel gorgeous, although temperatures will likely be a tiny bit down on Tuesday, without the import of extra French heat. The max will probably be 20-21°C, with nothing but sunshine and only the slight chance of a little sea mist on some of the beaches.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 4-5 foot surf on the west coast, with amazing conditions on all coasts for swimming and paddle-boarding, although there is a chance of sea mist blowing in from time to time. Tides will be 7.4m high at 10:40am, then low at 5:20pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
A distinct downturn in temperature, but at least Thursday doesn’t look as wet and windy as previously. A front that had looked rainy now only looks cloudy, and the NW’ly breeze will only briefly touch fresh force 5 in the late afternoon, having been pleasantly light all morning. Friday’s wind will then be a very light SE’ly. A great direction for bringing heat, but in this case, the cold air will have plunged well into France, so this gentle breeze isn’t going to have nearly the same effect as in the first half of the week. Max temps will likely be 15-16°C on Thursday, and 13-14°C on Friday. Both days mostly sunny, only a few brief spells of cloud.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2-3 foot surf on Thursday morning, then messy for the rest of the day. Super-clean 3-4 foot surf all day Friday. High tides will be about 6.9m at 11:15am Thursday, then 6.4m at 12:10pm Friday. Lows around dawn and dinnertime.
The Weekend
Weather
All dryness and sunshine must come to an end… Saturday will see cloudy skies and occasional rain, perhaps heavier and more persistent in the evening. The air will be chilly too, brought in by a moderate NW’ly wind. Sunday definitely looks like a better day, but not in the epic way that we are currently experiencing… this time a more standard SW’ly wind bringing a mix of cloud and sunshine, with only the smallest risk of one or two showers. Temperatures will likely peak around 11-12°C on Saturday and then 14-15°C on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish 4 foot surf on Saturday morning, then messy for the rest of the day, then cleanish 4 foot surf again throughout Sunday. High tides will be in the early afternoons (only 6.2m and 6.5m respectively). Lows around breakfast time and dusk.
The next forecast update will be most likely be on Wednesday or Thursday…
