Thursday
Weather
Some heavy showers, possibly with hail and thunder, but the majority of them will miss us, leaving long spells of dryness and brightness inbetween. Winds will only be a tad gentler than on Wednesday… generally a fresh force 5 NW’’ly in the morning, relaxing moderate force 4 in the afternoon, then a light force 3 N’ly in the evening and overnight. Max temps only 13°C (which is pretty cold for mid-May), min temps 7-8°C.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 3-4 foot surf on the west coast, and maybe some tiny clean waves for bodyboarding and bodysurfing down at Petit Bot. Great windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions in the morning. Good swimming conditions on the sheltered south and east coast beaches all day. Tides will be low around 11:30am and 8.3m high around 5:30pm.
Friday
Weather
Cool sunshine, and beautifully clear visibility. Max temps around 14°C. The wind just a light force 3 NW’ly, occasionally stepping up to moderate force 4. If we do catch a shower, then this would most likely be around dawn and/or dusk.
Surf and the Water
Sloppy 1-2 foot surf on the west coast. The best swimming conditions on the and east coast beaches, but the other coasts won’t be too bad. Tides will be low around 12:20pm and 8.8m high around 6:20pm.
The Weekend
Weather
A couple of partly sunny/partly cloudy days, with gentle W’ly breezes lifting temperatures just a tiny bit higher than the previous days (15°C for the maxima, and always feeling warmest on the east coast). Once again, some showers are possible but it’s very difficult to pin them down at this stage. Suffice to say that the risk is greater during the night time than the daytime, so the impact to outdoor activities should be minimal.
Surf and the Water
Big tides, with highs at breakfast time and dinnertime, increasing incrementally from 9m on Saturday morning to 9.4m on Sunday evening. Swimming conditions will generally be best on the east coast, whilst over on the west coast, the surf will frustratingly flat for the majority of the time. However, maybe, just maybe a tasty new 3 foot groundswell might rock up by the end of the day.
Next Week
Weather
Moderate force 4 SSW’ly winds on Monday and Tuesday, might increase fresh force 5 at times, and possibly bring the odd brief shower, to sprinkle on an otherwise dry and bright situation. The proper sunshine probably won’t turn up until Wednesday though, when winds relaxing light force 2-3 S’ly and then backing to moderate force 4 SE’ly on Thursday and fresh force 5 E’ly on Friday. The temperature trend through the week will be upwards, with daily maxima likely ratcheting through the high teens until we hit 20°C on both Thursday and Friday.
Surf and the Water
At last, a massively positive improvement in the surf forecast, with waves varying from 3 to 5 feet throughout the week, many of the days super-clean either due to a very light onshore breeze or from a moderate offshore. Swimming conditions will be increasingly good too, due to improving weather and a gradual rise in temperature. Tides reducing in range, day by day, with the morning highs starting off around 9.3m and finishing around 7.8m.
The next forecast update will be on Friday or Saturday…
