Tuesday
Weather
For Guernsey, so moderated by the temperature of the surrounding sea, hitting 30°C is about as rare as six-inch snow-covering. And to see either situation in May is unprecedented and therefore quite absurd. Most enjoyable for a BH weekend, but I’m afraid that ‘back to work’ Tuesday is looking just as hot, so after a rather sweaty and broken sleep, there will probably be a lot of tired faces, and also quite a lot of gratitude for air-conditioned offices. Out in the beautiful outdoors however, the half term school-kids and lucky stay-at-home parents will no doubt be hitting the beach. Max temp will be 31-32°C. Max UV index will be 7. Wind will be light force 3 ESE’ly, briefly backing ENE’ly in the late afternoon/early evening. West coast to maximise your heat, east coast for a tiny modicum of coolness from that little whiff of an onshore breeze. 19-20°C for the overnight min.
Surf and the Water
Another day of incredible west-coast surf… oh my goodness what a memorable BH Monday that was. Generally 3 feet and clean, not as powerful as Monday but definitely more powerful than Saturday and Sunday were. Low water will be around 10am and high around 4pm (7.4m).
Wednesday
Weather
Just as insanely sunny, but not quite so bonkers hot, due to a force 4-5 E’ly wind blowing all day, thus bringing much more of a cool-sea influence, to moderate that of the hot continent. 29°C for your max temp. 7 for your max UV. 16-17°C for your overnight min.
Surf and the Water
There will still be a rideable 2 foot swell, but it will be much more difficult with that brisk offshore wind in your face. Windsurfers and kitesurfers might get some satisfaction though. Low water will be around 11am and high around 5pm (7.6m).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
A big drop in temperature, but it will still be V pleasant by the normal late-May standards. Quite a lot of cloud on both days and maybe a bit of mist in the north and west. Some decent sunny breaks at times though, mainly in the south and east. Winds will be just a light force 2-3 SW’ly veering W’ly on Thursday, then a similarly gentle W’ly veering NW’ly on Friday. Maxima will be about 22°C and 20°C respectively. Minima will be about 13°C both nights.
Surf and the Water
The surf will not be too messy, because the onshore wind will only be light, but I’m afraid the waves will be tiny and only suitable for young kids really… a weak 1-2 feet on Thursday and then an even weaker 0-1 feet on Friday. Tides will be high around dawn and dinnertime (increasing incrementally from 7.8m on Thursday morning to 8.3m on Friday evening).
The Weekend
Weather
It looks like two more days with no rain. Generally cloudy in the mornings and sunny in the afternoons. Light force 3 NW’ly breezes, gradually backing SW’ly as the weekend progresses. Comfortably average temperatures, with 19-20°C for the likely maxima and 12-13°C for the likely minima.
Surf and the Water
An improving surf story, with the waves increasing from flat on Saturday morning to 2-3 feet by Saturday evening, then jumping up to an increasingly clean 4 feet on Sunday. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dinnertime (increasing incrementally from 8.2m on Thursday morning to 8.5m on Friday evening).
The next forecast update will be on Thursday or Friday…
