Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
A couple of partly sunny days, with SW’ly breezes so gentle that it will feel lovely and warm on the whole, but there will once again be the risk of sea mist and hill fog… mainly early morning and late evening, but quite possible at other times too. Town and St Sampson will be the warmest areas, peaking around 21°C whilst most other places top out at 20°C. Overnight temps will be comfortably average, hovering around 14°C for those few hours of darkness that occur this close to the solstice..
Surf and the Water
Flat surf on Tuesday then 2-3 foot surf on Wednesday. Nice and clean too, thanks to the lightness of the breeze, which will also make it great for sea swims. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dusk (the new moon yielding a whopping 9.1m in the mornings and 9.4m in the evenings). Low tides will be in the early afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday looks dead set to start with mist and fog, but the N’ly breeze might either chase it away and bless us with sunshine (if it’s as strong as force 3-4) or allow it to linger into the afternoon (if it’s as light as force 1-2). Either way, Friday is looking likely to see the return of the fuzzy visibility, as the pressure patterns rejig themselves and return us to the old faithful SW’ly. As with every day at the moment, the main combatants are the heat and the high angle of the sun around lunchtime and during the afternoon, so it’s the mornings and the evenings that stand the greatest risk of murk. And the evenings also carry the slight risk of a thundery shower, wandering northeastwards from Brittany. Max daytime temps will be in the east again, probably 21°C but possibly 22-23°C if the sunshine really gets a grip.
Surf and the Water
High tides will be in the mid-mornings, 9m on Thursday and 8.7m on Friday. Low tides in the late afternoons. The wind will probably be light enough to call the surf clean at all times… 2-3 feet on Thursday, then 1-2 feet on Friday.
The Weekend
Weather
Light NE’ly breezes are most likely on Saturday, possibly veering SE’ly on Sunday and bringing an increasing chance of very warm sunshine, without the compromise of any low cloud and mistiness. The movement of air is very uncertain at the moment though, whilst no clearly defined weather system high-pressure or low-pressure seems to be in charge. So I’m going to estimate daily maxima in the low twenties again, but it’s quite possible that the day of the Solstice could slip into the mid or perhaps even the high twenties. Don’t forget to protect your skin from the high UV, between 10am and 4pm.
Surf and the Water
Tides will be low around dawn and dinner time. The highs will be about 8.3m at 11:30am Saturday, then 7.9m at 12:20pm Sunday. Surfers might get to enjoy some clean 1-2 foot longboard waves on Saturday, but I’m afraid that Sunday currently looks likely to be flat.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday or Thursday…
