Guernsey Weather Fox

6-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 21/12/2019

Saturday

Weather

Through the morning, whilst it is dry and relatively pleasant, the strong wind will back from a SSW' to a SSE’ly direction. All the while, clouds thickening ahead of a very wet afternoon. Overnight, the wind will stay strong but change direction to a WNW’ly and then we will have an alternating sequence fair spells and brief blustery showers.

Surf and Tide.

Very small tides, with a low at 8:10am and a high at 2:10pm. This, along with the offshore winds, means a full day of excellent surf on the west coast, with waves ranging between 4 and 8 feet.

Sunday

Weather

The very strong WNW’ly wind will continue to bring brief squally showers throughout the day, and these will probably be most frequent during the afternoon. For any kind of shelter, then Fermain will be your best bet.

Surf and Tide.

This is definitely best left to the windsurfers. The tides; 2.9m low at 9:20am, 8.1m high at 3:20pm.

Monday

Weather

Perhaps a light shower in the early morning, but probably dry for the vast majority of the day, with sunshine occasionally managing to peep through the clouds. Temperatures much teh same as most recent days, peaking at 10-11C. Winds force 4 to 6 WSW’ly, gradually backing SSW’ly ahead of some overnight rain.

Surf and Tide

6-8 foot waves becoming increasingly clean towards the end of the day. Low water 2.5m at 10:20am. High water 8.4m at 4:20pm.

Christmas Eve to Boxing Day

A fresh WNW’ly breeze will bring sunshine and showers on Christmas Eve. Then winds will moderate and gradually back to a SE’ly direction through Christmas Day and Boxing Day. This will bring dry and settled weather; perfect for pre/after dinner walks and not at all bad for a scantily-clad dip in the ocean. It’s probably going to be rather cloudy for the most part, but no doubt the sunshine should break through from time to time. If you’re going for a Christmas surf, then it’s looking pretty lovely, with clean waves throughout, reducing from about 4-6 feet on Christmas Day to about 2 feet on Boxing Day. Tides will be fairly large though, so the tide is likely to be too low at lunchtime and early / late sessions are bound to be the best.

The next forecast update should be on Sunday evening.
