Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Saturday 28/12/2019.

Saturday

Weather

So the second half of Friday turned out to be much more misty and murky than previously expected, and with little change overnight, it is likely that the first few hours of Saturday will be similar. Probably no proper fog to worry about at the airport, but there is a slim risk of the odd patch which could cause a very brief delay. However, as we head into the afternoon, the wind will strengthen to a force 4 SE’ly and this ought to lift the cloud well above the ground and then break it up, hopefully allowing some weak sunshine to eventually filter through.

Surf and Tide

Oh yes! Super-clean 4-6 foot surf, best in the morning due to the tides. High water 9m at 7:40am, Low water 1.5m at 2:10pm.

Sunday

Weather

The risk of early morning murkiness will be less than on Saturday, but there is still a slim chance of it. Skies will still be rather cloudy but we shall probably see a little more brightness than on Saturday. With a moderate S’ly breeze throughout, the north and west coasts will certainly be the most comfortable areas to go gallivanting.

Surf and Tide

The waves will be just as awesome as on Saturday. Slightly better in fact, due to smaller tidal movements. High water 8.8m at 8:20am, Low water 1.8m at 2:50pm.

Monday and Tuesday (NY’s Eve)

Finally, a proper uncompromised sunny day on Monday. Pretty similar to Christmas day all being well. The breeze will be from a S’ly direction, just like on Sunday, but it should be a shade lighter, so it should feel a little warmer. New Year's Eve is very uncertain I'm afraid. A small but wet and windy low pressure system, is due to move from the Atlantic into France, possibly crossing the islands, but hopefully missing us by a comfortable distance. Therefore at this stage, it's 50/50 whether or not we are in for another lovely day or for the complete opposite. (Keep an eye on the updates).

The New Year

High-pressure looks likely to bring us dry and settled the weather through the rest of the school holidays at least. The winds will probably be from an ESE’ly direction, and France is not particularly warm at the moment, so the continental influence plus the short sea-track, is likely to keep temperatures around average, or perhaps a little on the cool side. Currently, computer models are suggesting that it will be cloudy every day, but this is always hard to forecast so far in advance, so I would say there is still a good chance of some sunshine.

The next forecast update should be with you by Monday morning.
