Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 13/01/2020

Monday

Weather

I don't know about you, but the mildness off Sunday, without the usual mist and drizzle etc, really made me feel quite energetic and spring-like. Some more of that would certainly be nice, and it looks as though Monday should deliver it (at least in the morning). The afternoon will be a gradual downhill slope though, as Storm Brendan pushes close enough to give us a thickening sheet if cloud and a strengthening S’ly wind (fresh force 5 at lunchtime increasing to strong force 7 by dusk). Fortunately, it won't be until the overnight period that the rain comes, but then it will be rather heavy and persistent.

Surf and Tide

Another brilliant day if surf, with super clean 6+ feet waves on the west coast. Get in early though, so you won't have to do too much battle with that howling offshore wind. High water 9.5m at 8:40am. Low water 1.2m at 2:10pm.

Tuesday

Weather

There's little more to say than very wet and very windy. From time to time, it will dry up, but not for long I'm afraid, and the wind will be relentless, force 5-6 S’ly in the morning, increasing to force 7-8 during the afternoon and overnight. At least it won't be cold though, with another top temp of 12C.

Surf and Tide

That slight reduction in wind during the morning, will mean that that is the time to take advantage of. The swell will probably be just too big to surf any west coast spots, but it should be a good 6 feet up on the north coast, giving us one of the best days this winter at L’Ancresse and the Fort. High water 9.5m at 8:40am. Low water 1.3m at 3:20pm.

Wednesday

Weather

And relax. Much like Sunday, we are in for a sunny day, with a fresh WSW’ly breeze. Just a slim risk of a shower in the morning, but a much greater chance of staying dry throughout.

Surf and Tide

Still huge, but probably more manageable on the west coast than on Tuesday. Probably best mid-bay Vazon during the late morning and lunchtime. High of 9.2m at 9:40am. Low of 1.6m 4.10pm.

Thursday and Friday

Back to the unsettled regime we go. Perhaps quite bright on Thursday morning, although the strong SE’ly wind could bring a troublesome high tide to the east coast. The afternoon will then turn cloudy, drizzly and perhaps misty, Overnight, a weather-front will sweep through, changing our wind to a blustery W’ly with squally showers likely to come and go throughout Friday.

The Weekend

As always, the far end of the forecast us the least certain. However, the current expectation is a good one, with high pressure likely to build over southern England, hopefully giving us a bounty of cool winter sunshine and just a gentle N’ly breeze. If this Forecast cokes to pass, then max temps will probably struggle to exceed 8-9C, but the south coast cliffs and beaches should still feel lovely.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday morning.
