Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 15/012020

Wednesday

Weather

Although the front is late to clear, giving us a sopping et start, we are still in for a dry and largely sunny second half of the day. Winds fresh W’ly, backing to gentle SW’ly by dusk and then fresh to strong SSE’ly during the night tonight. Today's max temp will be a bit lower than the other days (just 10C), but the conditions could mean that it actually feels a bit nicer during the afternoon, especially on north and west coasts.

Surf and Tide

Still huge, but probably more manageable on the west coast than on Tuesday. Probably best mid-bay Vazon during the late morning and lunchtime. High of 9.2m at 9:40am. Low of 1.6m 4.10pm.

Thursday

Weather

Fresh to strong SSE’ly winds will bring hazy sunshine through the morning, greyer by early afternoon and then some occasional rain from late afternoon through the night, some of which will be heavy. To get the absolute best out of the high temperatures (12-13C), head either toRichmond or to that really sheltered stretch between L’Eree and Pleinmont.

Surf and Tide

Really clean 4-6 feet waves on the west coast, giving us one of the best days of this week, providing you’re good at paddling against a very stiff offshore wind. High water, 8.8m at 10:20am (that's going to be a splashy one along Bulwar Avenue I think) Low water 2m at 4:50pm.

Friday

Weather

Bright and breezy all day. Just the odd passing shower, but they will whistle through very quickly thanks to a fresh to strong W’ly wind, and the bright or sunny intervals will all last much longer. Town will be on the sheltered side of the island, so that will be the mildest and most comfortable place to hang out. If that's all too urban for you, then stroll along the coastal path to Fermain for similar or even greater amounts of shelter.

Surf and Tide

The tides will be smaller and the waves much choppier. With plenty of cleaner waves on offer through the next 7-10 days, this one is probably best left to the windsurfers and kitesurfers to be honest.

The Weekend

Wild you believe it! It's still looking very dry and settled, with high pressure spread across the majority of the UK and France. Winds should be moderate N’ly or NE’ly, making the ever increasing sunshine feel most comfortable along the south coast and in some corners of the west coast. Temperatures aren't set to be as high as they have been during the week though. Losing the rain will cost us a few degrees, with 9C likely to be the max on each day.

Next Week

High pressure should keep things dry and settled through the entire week. Some days could be cloudy but they look more likely to be during the second half of the week. Wind directions will vary, which will have an effect on the daily max temps and the nightly mins. But those winds will always be on the light side, so I'm expecting that we'll peak between 8 and 10C everyday, dropping off to between 3 and 6C overnight, depending on cloud amounts (so ground frost will certainly be possible at times)

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening
