Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 27/01/2020

Monday

Weather

The first of two showery days. This one being the milder in terms of temperature and also the severity of the showers. These being fairly heavy but brief and generally composed of rain. During the evening however, the wind will switch from a fresh SSW’ly to a strong W’ly, and then the showers will become increasingly squally with hail. The max temperature 9-10C (just like Sunday) and the overnight minimum just 5 or 6C.

Surf and Tide

A petty good day for surfing, compared to the majority of the week. Cleanish 4-5 footers at Vazon and Portinfer, with a high tide of 9.1m at 8am and a low tide of 1.8m at 2:30pm.

Tuesday

Weather

Occasional squally showers, often with hail, sweeping through at any time of day, although with some decent sunny spells in between. I’m afraid t's going to feel really quite unpleasant, even during the dry time, due to the near gale force W’ly wind. This is going to make the 8C max temp feel a lot colder than it actually is.

Surf and Tide

Really big but a total mess. Possibly a fun day for some really hardcore windsurfers. Not much on offers for surfers though, except maybe a little manageable something at Pembroke. The tidal range just a smidge smaller and later than on Sunday.

Wednesday

Weather

Weather wise, it looks as though Hump Day is top of the week this week, with dryness and hazy sunshine dominating, and only the smallest risk of a light shower in the early morning. Winds will reduce significantly too, backing to just a moderate SW’ly by late afternoon.

Surf and Tide

With an 8.6m high tide at 9:10am, the best surf session is likely to be in the late morning or at lunchtime, when Vazon should be about 6 feet and not especially messy.

Thursday and Friday

With some very mild air streaming in from the SW. Temperatures are likely to rise to 12C on both days, maybe even 13C on Friday. The weather isn't going to be too fabulous I'm afraid though, with quite a lot of mist and drizzle, probably a few heavier spells of rain and some hill fog too. Winds will be fairly strong SW’ly, so on both days the most sheltered areas will be Town and Fermain.

The Weekend

Right now, it looks as though Saturday will be dry and bright, although still very windy. Once again, temperatures could be as high as 13C. Sunday probably very wet again though, and just as windy I'm afraid. (If by this point, the unsettled weather is getting on your nerves, then I can tell you that a cooler calmer high pressure system could well be in charge just a few days later).

The next forecast update will be with you on Wednesday evening.
