Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 30/01/2020

Thursday

Weather

The first of a few very mild days, with drizzle and poor visibility being the dominant features. Morning and afternoon are equally under threat. The only time that looks reliably likely to clear up, is the overnight period (which is a fat lot of good eh). Winds will be moderate force 4 to fresh force 5 throughout; more or less S’ly at dawn, gradually veering until they are W’ly in the late evening. The max temperature will be about 11C and the overnight minimum only a degree or two lower.

Surf and Tide

The morning will be best for the cleanest waves (3-4 feet) and the most cooperative tide. High water will be 8.2m at 9:40am, low-water will be 2.5m at 4pm.

Friday

Weather

On this day the mist and murk, along with the rain and drizzle, Will probably come early and late with a bit of a breather in the middle. Unfortunately, the timings of the weather fronts that are responsible for the filth are really uncertain, so if you are worried about flight disruption then I'm afraid I can't really advise on which hours are most at risk. Winds will be SSW’ly fresh force 5 for the most part, perhaps briefly strong force 6 when the weather fronts move through.

Surf and Tide

The morning will be best again for the cleanest waves (2-3 feet) and the most cooperative tide. High water will be 7.8m at 10:10am, low-water will be 2.8m at 4:30pm.

The Weekend

Saturday, looks set to have a fresh to strong WSW’ly wind throughout, bringing very similar murky weather to the pervious days. Once again, there could be a couple of spells of heavier rain or drizzle, as weather-fronts move through, but there is no certainty about any timings. It will at least feel very mild, so if you find some shelter from the wind then the 12C max should feel very (Town and Fermain will be best for this). Moving on to Sunday, there will be very little change, except for a backing of the wind to a due SW’ly, which will just mean that some west coast areas will be nice and sheltered too, such as around Portelet or down at the Richmond end of Vazon Bay

Next Week

Monday and Tuesday should be transitional days, as the wind gradually veers to a strong NW’ly, bringing much cooler and cleaner air. This means that we should see some good spells of sunshine by the end of Tuesday, although they will probably be peppered with short sharp showers. The really fine weather will come in the second half of the week as high pressure builds over the UK and a cold, dry NE’ly airflow becomes established over the area. This will be classically clear and beautiful, hopefully for quite a prolonged period (maybe a week or more). Expect nightly frosts and daytime temperatures to be locked in low-mid single figures.

The next forecast update should be with you sometime on Friday.
