Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 05/02/2020

Wednesday

Weather

The first of three mostly sunny and totally dry days. With high pressure almost directly overhead, winds will be very light and E’ly or variable in direction. So all parts should feel equally pleasant, although only peaking at 9C. Overnight, the temperature will plummet to about 3C, so we might well be waking up to hoar frost on Thursday.

Surf and Tide

Much cleaner waves on the west coast. However, they will be much smaller too. The biggest of them will be about 2-3 feet on the more serious high-tide reefs. The sand-bottom waves at Vazon will be about 1-2 feet and probably best around lunchtime. A tiny tidal range. High water, roughly 6.8m at 3:20pm.

Thursday

Weather

A straight forward sunny day, with moderate SE’ly breezes making the north and west coasts the most lovely place to be, especially during the afternoon when the tide is high. Max temp 9C again. Little chance of frost overnight, due to a bit of an increase in the wind.

Surf and Tide

Only 1 foot if we are lucky in the morning, but hopefully a good 2 to 3 feet and clean through the afternoon. The tidal range will be pretty small again, with just a 7.3m high at 4:20pm.

Friday

Weather

Force 4-5 SSE’ly winds will favour the north and west coast again. He temperature might rise to 10C due to the arrival of milder air, but cloudier skies and the slight increase in the wind will mean that it probably won't feel quite as nice as the previous days.

Surf and Tide

3 feet and clean all day, but with the tidal range getting larger, it will only really be the afternoon that will be worth pursuing. Low water 2.3m at 11:20am. High water 8.1m at 5:20pm.

The Weekend

After a wet spell on Friday night, Saturday will feel a bit different, due to puddles on the ground and a fresh SW’ly wind. The chance of showers is very low though, so with another 10C max, it wont actually be that different to Friday. The real change will come on Sunday though, when a deep depression develops over northern Britain, and we get caught up in a WSW’ly gale, with blustery showers or longer spells of rather heavy rain. The tides will be getting big again too, so the west coast will be very splashy around dawn and particularly around dusk. No risk of flooding at this stage though. The really big tides won't kick in until Tuesday next week.

Next Week

A very stormy week I'm afraid. Previous hopes that settled weather would dominate mid-February have been dashed. WSW’ly gales on Monday and Wednesday (Wednesday being the most troublesome combination with large tides). Tuesday, Thursday and Friday all slightly calmer but only by a whisker. Rain or showers are likely every day. Much of this heavy, I'm afraid.

The next forecast update should be with you Thursday evening.
