Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting on Monday 10/02/2020

Monday

Weather

Sunny spells alternating with squally showers of rain or hail. Through mid-morning the winds will probably give us some respite, easing back to just strong force 6 WSW’ly for a short time. However, through the afternoon and evening, the gales will be back and the gusts that come with the heaviest showers could be as much as 65mph.

Surf and Tide

Huge waves all day. Watch out for the large spring tides, which could be very damaging along the west coast (best avoided between 6 and 9 o’clock, morning and evening). If you are thinking of surfing, then it goes without saying that you should take great care, but there could be a rare opportunity for experts, up at Pembroke during the morning, whilst the winds are taking a breather. Max temp 10-11C. Min temp 6-7C.

Tuesday

Weather

Another day of showers, perhaps with not so much sunshine in betweeen them though. There will be a slight improvement in the wind situation though, with A W’ly force 6 for the most part, and the gusts not likely to exceed 45mph. Max temp 8-9C. Min temp 6-7C.

Surf and Tide

Huge surf again, with similarly hazardous tides to Monday’s. The times to avoid the west coast will be between 6:30 and 9:30 (both am and pm). Surf-wise, once again, Pembroke is probably the only option. If it does deliver something decent then please send me your pictures.

Wednesday

Weather

Sunshine and showers, along with a further relaxation of the wind; this time a force 6 W’ly in the morning and early afternoon, gradually backing to a force 5 SW’ly later. Max temp 8-9C. Min temp 7-8C.

Surf and Tide

With the waves simmering down to a mere 8 feet, and the wind possibly backing SW’ by the end of the day, then there could be a brief classic moment at Vazon before dusk. As for the tides, it’s only really the morning high that looks particularly threatening for the west coast, so best to steer clear between the hours of 7 and 10am.

Thursday and Friday

Situations are so quick to change at the moment, with the number of deep depressions that are sweeping across the Atlantic. This means that Forecast confidence is low. However, my best estimation at the moment, is that we shall see a rise in temperatures on Thursday as SSW'ly winds bring half a day of brightness and half a day of drizzly rain. After that, Friday should be dry and sunny all being well .

The Weekend

As I already mentioned, long range forecasting is not at all easy at the moment, so I can't really give any precise details, but suffice to say that wet and windy conditions are more likely than dry and settled. Temperatures about average or perhaps slightly higher.

The next forecast update should be with you on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
