Wednesday
Weather
Much like Tuesday, with a top temp of 9C and a mixture of sunshine and brief rain showers (perhaps with a little hail at times). Winds will be force 4-5 W’ly at first and the SW’ly in the afternoon. Then it’s going to be after midnight when things turn more dramatic, with a near gale force S’ly wind bringing a prolonged spell of rather heavy rain.
Surf and Tide
The tides still very high and splashy, but not quite as violent as of late; 9.9m at 8:40am and 9.5m at 9:10pm. Surf-wise, this really the most manageable moment of the week, so it is one to be seized. We are probably looking at a late morning Vazon session with a semi-choppy 4-5 feet, or slightly bigger session, carrying on into lunchtime at Portinfer.
Thursday
Weather
We will wake up to some very large puddles from the overnight rain, and these will be topped up a few times during the day, as a few heavy showers (perhaps thundery) sweep across the islands on a W’ly gale (This one named Storm Innes by the French). Wind and rain gradually diminishing through the afternoon.
Surf and Tide
Huge waves but with a wind to ruin them in all of the bays I'm afraid. This will be the last day of really hazardous tides along the west coast, with a 9.8m high at 9:20am and then a 9.2m high at 9:50pm.
Friday
Weather
This has consistently looked like the most settled day of the week, with fresh SSW’ly breezes, thin cloud or hazy sunshine and probably totally dry. Seize the moment everybody. The top temp should be a comfortable 12C and you should find some shelter from the breeze on all coasts except for the south. Max temp 8-9C. Min temp 7-8C.
Surf and Tide
Clean west-coast surf in the 4-6 foot range. Probably best in the late morning and at lunchtime. High water, a much less threatening 9.1m at 10:10am.
The Weekend
Storm Dennis will not be too unlike Storm Ciara that preceded him. Early indications suggest very similar severity and duration for us down here in the Channel. Saturday morning and early afternoon will probably be dry and therefore, that will be the time to go out and get things done, whether t be to have some fun or to batten down the hatches again. However, it will be getting very windy, with the SSW’ly wind steadily increasing from fresh F5 at dawn to strong F7 at noon and the gales or severe gales by evening. Then through Saturday night night and Sunday, severe SW’ly gales look likely throughout, along with heavy showers or longer spells if heavy rain. The only marginal improvement on Storm Ciara is that the tides are going to be much smaller (around 8m high on Saturday and less than 7.5m on Sunday).
Next Week
Monday and Tuesday should be much drier than Sunday, but the wind will take quite a long time to simmer down from the initial force 8 WSW’ly to the eventual force 6 WNW’ly. Forecast confidence is low for the rest of the week, but it looks likely to be mostly dry and relatively settled.
The next forecast update should be with you on Friday evening.
