Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Saturday 15/02/2020

Saturday

Weather

So here we go, after a nice little breather on Friday, it's time for storm Dennis. It's difficult to tell if this will be as bad for us, as storm Innes was. Innes was named by the French on account of the severe gales that it would bring to Brittany and Normandy. Dennis was named by the UK on account of the flooding that it will bring to Northern Britain. So we are further removed from the action on this occasion. However, we can still expect strong force 6 SSW’ly winds in the morning, strengthening to 7 by late afternoon and possibly touching gale force 8 at times overnight. As for the rain, well that will start with a brief heavy burst around lunchtime and then it will be light and patchy through the rest of the afternoon and overnight.

Surf and Tide

Amazing BIG west-coast surf in the morning, before the wind gets too strong. Through the afternoon, it will be a real battle, but there could be some good waves on the north coast. High water will be about 8.7m at 10am.

Sunday

Weather

This will likely be a worse day than Saturday, with heavy showers or longer spells of rain, leading to at least double the amount of water on the ground (probably 10-20mm by the end of the day). I doubt the sunshine will really find any gaps to sneak through. As for the winds, well they're still going to be strong force 6 to gale force 8, but this time veering to a WSW’ly direction.

Surf and Tide

Messier waves on this day, so it probably isn't worth fighting with the wind. The tide will be smaller again (mercifully), reaching a high of about 7.9m at 11:40am.

Monday and Tuesday

On Monday, WSW’ly gales will bring squally showers with sunny intervals. The air will be at least a couple of degrees cooler than through the weekend, and this means there's a high chance that hail will be mixed in with the showers. Through Tuesday, the wind and showers will ease off just a tad, but we will have to wait another day before things really settle down comfortably.

The Rest of Next Week

With the exception of a quick blast of SSW’ly winds and some rain on Thursday, the rest of next week looks likely to be dry, settled and mostly sunny. However, as always, the long-range part of the forecast is a bit uncertain, so keep an eye on the updates to see if the trend stays this positive.

The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
