Wednesday
Weather
And it’s back to leaden skies and occasional rain. The rain will probably be heaviest and most persistent in the morning, but with some lengthy dry interludes in the afternoon. The morning will also have the strongest wind... a fresh force 5 SSW’ly, veering to a light force 3 NNW’ly in the afternoon. Max temp 13°C, min temp 9°C.
Surf and the Water
The west coast surf will be 4-5 feet and clean in the morning, but then it’s going to turn pretty messy in the afternoon. This will be a bit of a blow for the after-school session, but I’m sure the keenest groms will still have a blast. High water will be about 7.3m at 3:20pm.
Thursday
Weather
And just like that, it’s back to sunny spells again, with a gentle E’ly breeze bringing drier and marginally cooler air. However, given the finer conditions, I doubt that anybody will notice that it’s any cooler. Head to the west coast in the mid-late afternoon for the absolute best of it.
Surf and the Water
An absolute peach of a day for surfers, with really clean 3-4 foot waves. I’m afraid the tidal movements will be getting a bit bigger though, with a low of about 3.1m at 10:10am and then a high of about 7.7m at 4pm.
Friday
Weather
We will hang on to that E’ly breeze, but it will be slightly stronger (probably a force 4) and the skies will be cloudier, all resulting in a max temp of just 11°C and the wind chill making it feel even cooler. There is a risk of showers on this day, so maybe put the laundry on hold, because the weekend is looking more definitely dry.
Surf and the Water
Another day of beautifullly clean west-coast waves. Quite a lot smaller this time though, at just 1-2 feet. Definitely a day for the longboard and SUPs. As for the tidal movements... slightly bigger again, with a low of about 2.7m at 10:50am, then a high of about 8.1m at 4:40pm.
The Weekend
Weather
A couple of dry and partly sunny days, but with a fairly brisk wind (SE’ly on Saturday and NE’ly on Sunday) making it feel a little chilly at times. If you’re planning on a nice long walk or a run, then the west coast will be the most sheltered and comfortable on Saturday, followed by the south coast on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
Plenty more surf, with some really clean 4 footers on Saturday followed by some semi-clean 3 footers on Sunday. Broadly speaking, the low tides will be around noon, and the high tides will be shortly before dawn and after dusk (roughly 8.5m).
Next Week
Weather
With high pressure over the nearby Atlantic, it’s looking fairly definite that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will all be dry and sunny, but with a N’ly airflow keeping the temperature on the low side of average. If you’re looking for some quality outdoor time, then the south-coast cliff-paths will probably be the best place to find it. Moving on to Thursday and the rest of the week, it looks as though things will turn wet and windy again, as that high-pressure system clears off to Scandinavia, allowing a series of Atlantic lows to pile into the UK.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will probably be very small and choppy from Monday to Wednesday. The south coast probably won’t have any surf on those days but it will be lovely for swimming. From Thursday onward, the west-coast surf is bound to increase in size, but it’s not promising to be of any great quality at the moment.
The next forecast update should be with you on Thursday or Friday.
