Saturday
Weather
Cloudy skies, lengthy spells of rain and a few more of those frigid hail showers. The total accumulation should be about 8-15mm, making it a wetter day than Friday but not quite as sopping as Thursday (when we racked up over 30mm). As for the wind, we are pretty definitely going to start off with a Strong S’ly and finish up with a similarly strong NE’ly. The very uncertain thing is whether the wind will fall light and variable during the middle part of the day. If it does fall light, then won’t feel quite so horrible, but it still won’t lift the temperature any higher than about 7°C.
Surf and the Water
Powerful 6-8 foot waves. It’s uncertain how clean they will be, on account of the uncertainty in the wind forecast. However, there’s a good chance of some proper quality at times. Therefore, if you have the expertise to handle those kind of waves, just be careful not to snooze and lose. High water will be 8.4m at 9am and low water will be about 2.9m at 3:30pm.
Sunday
Weather
Perhaps a degree or two warmer than on Saturday, thanks to long spells of sunshine and very few (if any) showers. The breeze will be a moderate N’ly, gradually falling light. Therefore the south coast will be the most sheltered and comfortable place to go for a nice long walk.
Surf and the Water
The waves will drop right off to about 3 feet, probably too small to get into the south coast bays. However, the west coast should be reasonably clean when the wind falls light in the afternoon.
Monday to Wednesday
Weather
It currently looks mostly dry and relatively settled. There is a bit of uncertainty on Monday because a deep low pressure system is going to move from the Atlantic into Brittany and then further into France. The various forecast models from the UK, Europe and America all seem to agree that the foul weather will miss us and pile straight into Brittany. However, it’s a bit too close for comfort, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if the forecast changes for the worse. At the very least, we can be sure of cloudy skies and a chilly E’ly wind on Monday. The next two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) will have sunny spells and isolated showers. The wind will be N’ly in direction. The strength is uncertain but it will probably maintain the same temperature as Monday, which is roughly 9°C for the daily maxima and about 5°C for the nightly minima (with some patchy ground frost likely).
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 2 feet and clean on Monday, then quite a bit bigger on Tuesday and Wednesday, but probably quite a bit messier too. Medium-sized tides, with high water in the late morning on Monday, shifting to lunchtime on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
It looks like we are in for more typical December weather, with a succession of low-pressure systems brewing up in the Atlantic. The details of how much rain we get (and when) are very uncertain, but it looks as though the airflow will be mostly S’ly, which does mean that we can expect the temperature to rise a bit, probably giving us daily maxima 11-12°C and nightly minima 8-9°C.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will probably be big and clean for the most part. There might even be some smaller but rideable waves on the north coast too. The tides will stay medium in size, with lows at breakfast time and highs during the afternoons.
The next forecast update will be with you on Sunday evening…
