Monday
Weather
A lovely sunny start to the day, but it will be cloudier by lunchtime, with showery rain coming and going until late evening. The wind will be very similar to Sunday’s wind (and most other days this week)… a force 4-6 SSW’ly, meaning that there will be plenty of sheltered and comfortable areas on the east and west coasts, but the south and north will both be rather exposed. Daytime max temp 12°C, night-time min 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Big clean waves on both the north and west coast. The west coast waves will be well over 10 feet, so there won’t be many places that will handle it, but it will be interesting to see if any of the most sheltered corners light up with some novelty treats. As for the north coast, we could even be looking at juicy 6-footers up at L’Ancresse. Pictures will be most welcome. As for the tides, the highs will be roughly 9.4m shortly before dawn and after dusk and the low will be about 1.4m at 12:20pm.
Tuesday
Weather
The day should start sunny, with just the smallest risk of a shower. However, unlike Monday, that’s exactly how it should stay this time. As for the winds... pretty much the same again – a force 4-6 SSW'ly. Likewise for the temperatures, with a daytime max of 11-12°C and an overnight min of 9-10°C.
Surf and the Water
A slight reduction in wave-heights, but still clean and plenty big enough to surf on the north coast as well as the west. The first high tide will be roughly 9.6m at 6:40am, then low will be 1.2m at 1pm and the second high will be roughly 9.5m at 7pm.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
Carrying on with this big-dipper of a week, its looking likely to be wet Wednesday and a mostly dry Thursday. The rain on Wednesday is a little bit uncertain, because we will have a very strong SSE’ly wind all day. This means that the Atlantic weather-front will be slow-moving as it pushes up against this wind, so it could be late to arrive (possibly around dusk) or it could be rather early (possibly around dawn). Either way, after about 5-6 hours of rain, we should be in for a fairly dry run, with only a few brief showers through Thursday. As for Thursday’s winds, we are probably looking at a force 4-5 SW’ly. (Temperatures pretty much the same as every other day this week).
Surf and the Water
More fantastic surf... 6 feet and clean on the west coast every day. Wednesday and Friday probably the cleanest of all, but the offshore wind will be so strong that the waves will be very difficult to paddle in to. As for the tides; all the highs will be big and splashy, but watch out particularly for Wednesday morning’s high (the biggest of the week) which could be quite troublesome for the east-coast road during rush-hour.
Friday and the Weekend
Weather
Friday has been looking like the wettest and windiest day of the week for quite some time, so confidence is pretty high for that element of the forecast. We are probably talking about a force 7 (perhaps gale F8) S’ly wind, with about 10-20mm of rain. The weekend should then see a very slow improvement, with force 5-6 SW’ly wind bringing occasional heavy showers on Saturday, then a force 4 W’ly wind bringing only isolated showers on Sunday. The temperatures will be on the slide, with a max of 13°C on Friday, 12°C on Saturday and 11°C on Sunday. However, Sunday is bound to feel like the most comfortable day, thanks to the lightest winds and the lengthiest spells of sunshine.
Surf and the Water
The tidal range will continue to reduce in size, with the highs moving to the mid-mornings and the lows to the late afternoons. However, the surf will bounce right back up, with wave-heights similar to Monday or perhaps even bigger.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
