Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 04/01/2021

Monday

Weather

Much like Sunday, it’s going to be cold (only 5-6°C for the max) with frequent showers of rain or sleet, some of which could be rather prolonged and heavy. I’m afraid that any bright intervals are going to be very brief, but if you want to seize one of them to go for a walk, then you will still need a thick coat, because the force 4-5 ENE’ly wind will feel really quite bitter.

Surf and the Water

It will most-likely be flat, but there’s just a slim chance of some nice longboardable waves a couple of hours either side of high water. The best swimming conditions will also be around high tide (west coast and south coast) because this is when the water will benefit most from the shelter of the sea-walls and cliffs. High water will be about 8.4m at 9:40am, then low water will be about 2.3m at 4:10pm.

Tuesday

Weather

Same wind and temperature as on Monday, but hopefully a bit more of a cheerful day, due to a slight reduction in the number of sleety showers and a slightly higher chance of sunny spells. The south-coast cliff-paths will be the best area to enjoy a relatively comfortable walk.

Surf and the Water

Same again… most-likely be flat, but there’s just a slim chance of some nice longboardable waves a couple of hours either side of high water. The best swimming conditions will also be around high tide (west coast and south coast) because this is when the water will benefit most from the shelter of the sea-walls and cliffs. High water will be about 8.2m at 10:30am, then low water will be about 2.5m at 5pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Again, the changes will be very subtle, but it does look as though they will be slightly for the better. So, we are still talking about sunny intervals and occasional sleety showers, but this time the NE’ly wind will only be force 3-4.

High water will be about 7.9m at 11:30am, then low water will be about 2.7m at 5:50pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

These days are perhaps the most uncertain, because the wind will back to a very light NW’ly and this will either serve to just dissipate the sleety showers of the previous days, or it might perhaps bring in longer spells of rain/sleet/wet snow from the Irish Sea and Northern Britain. It really could go either way, but what we can be confident of is that it will be cold, with temperatures only peaking at 4-5°C by day and possibly dropping as low as zero overnight.

Surf and the Water

If we get any surf, then it will still be very small, but there is a slightly higher chance of it on both Thursday and Friday than on any other day this week. The tides will be high at lunchtime (medium-sized) and the lows will be during the hours of darkness.

The Weekend

Weather

These days are quite uncertain too. However, with high pressure expected to extend over the Channel, we will probably see a couple of dry days, with a rather cold NE’ly airflow, but possibly enough sunshine to lift us to the balmy heights of 7°C. Watch this space…

Surf and the Water

Just like earlier in the week, the chance of rideable surf is very slim, but it will certainly be clean if we do get it. The best swimming conditions will be on the south and west coasts around the times of high tide, which will be during the afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday.
