Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 09/01/2021

Saturday

Weather

A lovely dry day, kicking off with frost and ice, but soon thawing out in the sunshine. The max temperature should be 7°C, which is slightly higher than the previous days. However, there will be a force 3-4 ENE’ly breeze, so it’s still going to feel chilly. If you’re going for a walk, then head to either the south or west coast for the best of it.

Surf and the Water

I’m afraid the surf will be flat, but the south and east coasts will have some lovely smooth water for swimmers and paddle-boarders. The hours around high tide will be the ideal time… 7.7m at 3pm.

Sunday

Weather

A slightly cloudier day than Saturday, but still bright at times and totally dry. The max should be 7°C again but it might actually feel a tad milder than Saturday, due to the wind being lighter (just a force 2-3 N’ly). Becoming much cloudier and milder overnight, so no frost or ice on this occasion.

Surf and the Water

Another waveless day. The winds will be light enough for all coasts to be ok for a cold-water dip, but the south coast will still have a slight advantage. Any time of day will be ok down there. The tides will be 2.5m low at 10:10pm and 8m high at 4:10pm.

Monday

Weather

Cloudy but dry. The wind veering W’ly and increasing to force 4-5, bringing milder air from the mid-Atlantic. 10°C should be the max. That’s 3°C higher than any day for at least a week, so the difference should be very noticeable, despite the skies being rather gloomy.

Surf and the Water

I doubt that the waves will be surfable but they will begin to grow, in preparation for some better days to come. Sea swimmers will find the nicest conditions around Havelet or Fermain. The dawn and dusk sessions probably being the best because that’s when the tide will be highest.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

With several weather fronts sweeping across the area, we can expect each day to include at least one spell of rain. Tuesday will have a force 5-6 WNW’ly wind, with sunshine for a large part of the day, taking the temperature up to about 11°C (feeling nicest on the south and east coasts). Wednesday will see the arrival of a force 4-5 SW’ly wind and that’s probably going to lead to a similar max temperature, but with low-cloud, mist and hill-fog, rather than any sunshine.

Surf and the Water

4-5 foot west-coast surf, which should be messy on Tuesday but fairly clean on Wednesday. The tides will be getting wuite large but they shouldn’t cause any trouble. Tuesday’s highs will be about 8.8m at 5:40am and at 6pm, then Wednesday’s will be about 50 minutes later and 20-30cm higher.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The murky mizzle of Wednesday should have cleared overnight, to give a bright and breezy Thursday. The clarity of the air coming from a stronger and cooler NNW’ly airflow. Usually cool air and mild sea leads to vigorous showers, but the recent cold snap has taken sea-temperatures down below 9°C, so the showers will probably be isolated and more of a problem for Jersey than for Guernsey. The max temp should be about 10°C but the south coast cliff paths might just sneak up to a pleasant 11°C. Then on Friday, high pressure is expected to spread across the Channel, bringing total dryness and occasional sunshine. Furthermore, the wind should fall light and variable, meaning that all areas feel really comfortable and pleasant.

Surf and the Water

Bigger surf again, probably about 6 feet or more on the west coast. Thursday will probably be very messy but it should clean up nicely when the wind drops off on Friday. Swimmers, will enjoy the south coast best on Thursday, and hopefully everywhere will be nice on Friday. The tides will be about 9.3m high around dawn on both days, and they will be about 1.2m low in the early afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening.
