Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 16/01/2021

Saturday

Weather

Well Friday’s bliss couldn’t last forever, so it’s back to wet and windy for Saturday morning and lunchtime. However, we should squeeze in 2 to 3 hours of dryness and brightness before sunset. The wind will be a force 6 SSW’ly throughout those wet hours, and then it will veer to a force 4 NW’ly for the dry time. These winds won’t feel particularly toasty but they will actually bring milder air to the islands, so we should peak at 10°C and then only drop off to about 6-7°C overnight.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be 3-4’ and clean during the morning, then with an increasing swell, there might be some semi-decent south-coast options during the afternoon. High water will be about 9.2m at 8:30am. Low water will be about 1.5m at 3pm.

Sunday

Weather

Sunday should continue as Saturday left off; dry and bright with moderate NW’ly breezes. Therefore, with a full day to get out and about, you might fancy a nice long walk and the best places to do that will be on the sheltered south and east coasts. The max temperature will be a couple of degrees lower than on Saturday (only 8°C) but the overnight minimum will be just the same (6-7°C).

Surf and the Water

Once again, there might be just enough swell to find some small clean novelty waves on the south coast. However, the 4-5’ west coast surf shouldn’t be too messy, because the onshore wind won’t be particularly strong. High water will be about 8.8m at 9:10am. Low water will be about 1.8m at 3:40pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Both mornings should be dry and possibly quite bright, but I’m afraid the afternoons are both looking very wet. The wind SSW’ly throughout… fresh force 5 on Monday and then strong force 6 to 7 on Tuesday. With this wind direction, we will maintain a steady feed of mild air, so the temperature should climb back to 10°C on Monday and then carry on up to 11°C on Tuesday.

Surf and the Water

A great wind direction for west-coast surf. The waves will only be about 2’ on Monday but that will be ok because the wind won’t be too strong. Then on Tuesday, the waves will pick up to about 6’ but you will really need that extra size and power, in order to battle against the much stronger wind. The tides will be high in the mid-mornings and low around dusk.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

Staying wet and windy throughout the rest of the working week, with Wednesday standing out as the wettest day and Thursday probably the windiest. The wind direction will be W’ly for the vast majority of the time, which means that the air won’t be quite as mild as on Monday and Tuesday, but the temperature will still be a little higher than the seasonal average, probably peaking at 9-10°C on Wednesday and Thursday, then 8-9°C on Friday.

Surf and the Water

Big messy surf for the majority of the time. However, as the various weather fronts approach, we will probably see brief changes to a SW’ly wind-direction. So keep an eye on it and be sure to seize those moments when they occur. The times of low water will be before dawn and after dusk, and highs will be around the middle of each day.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening.
