Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 25/01/2021

Monday

Weather

The finest day of the week by a long-shot. After a possibly icy start (take care if you are out and about in the morning), the sunshine will begin to feel really pleasant. By the afternoon, the wind should be so light that you might even want to take your hats and jackets off, even though the temperature won’t climb any higher than 6 or 7°C.

Surf and the Water

If your two hours exercise includes a sea swim, then all coasts should feel very pleasant, but there will be about 4-6 feet of swell on the west coast, so you might want to head to the south or east coast if you really like it silky smooth. Low water will be about 3.4m at 10:10am, then high water will be about 7.3m at 4:20pm.

Tuesday

Weather

Perhaps some brightness around breakfast time, but it really won’t be long before the sky turns very grey, with patchy rain for a while, turning to more persistent misty drizzle later. The wind will be SSW’ly, starting off moderate force 4 to fresh force 5, then picking up to force 6 before dusk.

Surf and the Water

Clean 2-4 foot surf on the west coast. Good swimming conditions up north. Low water will be about 2.9m at 11 am, then high water will be about 7.7m at 5:10pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Misty and drizzly all day, with moderate SW’ly wind. The air will be mild, peaking at around 10-11°C and really feeling quite pleasant in Town.

Surf and the Water

The surf won’t be quite as clean as on Tuesday but it will be a little bigger (4-5 feet). North and east coasts will generally be best for swimming, but some of the west coast nooks won’t be too far behind.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

We are getting to the uncertain end of the forecast, but it’s looking like a pretty simple story of sunshine and showers. With the air actually being warmer than the sea (11-12°C in the air and 8-9°C in the sea), the showers will probably be very isolated, except perhaps during the night when some larger more organised bands of rain are likely to sweep through. Strong WSW’ly winds on both days; force 6-7 on Thursday, then force 5-6 on Friday.

Surf and the Water

Lumpy chunky surf on the West coast both days. Best swimming conditions will be at Fermain and at Havelet. The tides will be getting fairly large, but the highs will be before dawn and after dusk.

The Weekend

Weather

With a deep low-pressure system sweeping through on Saturday morning and then another on Sunday evening, it’s looking very wet and windy at times. The in between bit (late afternoon Saturday to early morning Sunday) will probably be the opposite; largely clear, calm and therefore cold. Wind directions are uncertain at the moment, but a NE’ly is most likely for Saturday (so don’t be surprised to see some sleet), then a SSW’ly is most likely on Sunday (so don’t be surprised to see that sleet turn back into rain).

Surf and the Water

Potentially quite nice on the water late Saturday and very early Sunday. Otherwise generally very rough. Big tides, with highs of over 9m at breakfast time.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday.
