Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 06/02/2021

Saturday

Weather

If you enjoyed the Friday sunshine, then you’ll be glad to hear that Saturday will be very similar. The showers very few and far between, quite possibly missing us altogether. I think by now that we are all well aware that it’s going to turn very cold very soon, so we should definitely take advantage of this last day of relative warmth. Max temp 8-9°C with barely a breath of wind (just a light force 2 N’ly).

Surf and The Water

Super silky conditions all around the island. The west coast swell should be about 1-3 feet, so the longboard surfers will probably enjoy it the most, but there could be the odd wave for shortboarders too, especially in the late morning. High water will be about 7.3m at 1:10pm.

Sunday

Weather

Brrrr, quite a plummet in temperatures; starting off at 3-4°C with a ground frost, then picking up to the dizzy heights of about 5°C if we are lucky (perhaps not even managing that). The skies will be cloudy, with a bitter NE’ly breeze, blowing at around fresh force 5 throughout the day and the night. The showers will probably only be before dawn and after dusk. The early ones falling as rain and drizzle, but the evening ones most likely falling as sleet of perhaps even snow.

Surf and The Water

Certainly not a surf day, but maybe a south-coast swim day, if you’re into the Wim Hof lifestyle. Low water will be 3.4m at 8:30am and high water will be 7.2m at 2:40pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Just the odd sleety shower on Monday, so it certainly doesn’t look like a white out at this stage. It will however be bitterly cold, as we hang onto those gloomy skies and that fresh NE’ly wind. The temperature holding steadfast at around 3-4°C. Going through Tuesday, we will see very little change in the leaden skies, but there will be a subtle shift in the wind to a strong F6 E’ly, which will take the temperature down to 2°C. Then, when an Atlantic weather front slides over that cold air in the afternoon and evening, there is a fairly high chance of some more persistent snow. If this is the case, then it might be a good idea to wrap up extra warm and go catch as much of it as you can, because computer models are currently suggesting that the snow will turn back into rain during the night, and nothing gobbles up snow quite as well as rain does.

Surf and The Water

Monday, just like Sunday, looks like a day to forget about going surfing. It looks as though we might be blessed with a clean 2 foot swell on Tuesday though. Obviously it will be very very cold though. The time to go will be when the tide is approaching high (8m at 5:10pm) the time to go, in order to salvage a tiny bit of shelter from the sea-wall.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

It looks as though Wednesday might well be a repeat of Tuesday, with another weather front coming through towards the end of the day, probably arriving as a snowy feature then departing as rain. Then, through Thursday and Friday, the weather should become dry and partly sunny. The wind veering SE’ly on Thursday, and then SW’ly on Friday, lifting the temperature by a couple of degrees each day, taking us up to about 8°C by the end of the working week.

Surf and The Water

Definitely looking like the better end of the week for surfers, Confidence is still too low to be specific, but clean medium-sized waves looks most likely. There will be bigger tides to navigate though; increasing each day until we have highs of over 9m on Friday morning and evening.

The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening…
