Thursday
Weather
Rather similar to Tuesday, in that we will have a very cold and mostly dry day, with a chance of some snow showers in the afternoon and evening, which probably won’t be enough to give any accumulation. The daytime temperature will hover between zero and 2°C, with a force 5-6 ESE’ly wind making it feel as though it’s minus 6°C. The sun might say hello from time to time, but not as frequently as it did on Wednesday, and it really wouldn’t have the power to make you take your hats and gloves off anyway.
Surf and the Water
A very difficult offshore wind to deal with, but there will be some super-clean 2-4 foot waves on offer if you are up for it. The tides will be about 9m high at 6:20am and about 1.5m low at 12:50pm.
Friday
Weather
Cloudy but dry, with very little change in wind or temperature, until some slightly milder air arrives in the evening. Indeed the overnight temperature should hover around 2-3°C, so it’s still going to feel rather bitter, but for the first time this week we probably won’t have any ground frost.
Surf and the Water
The waves will increase to 4-6 feet and the wind will not feel quite as painfully cold as the previous days. The tides will be about 9.3m high at 7am and about 1.3m low at 1:30pm.
The Weekend
Weather
We will finally see a return to near average temperatures, making it a little more bearable to be out and about. Don’t get too excited though because the wind will still be very strong (coming from a SSE’ly direction this time). Saturday’s max temp should be about 4-5°C around dusk and then Sunday’s should be about 8°C around the same time, perhaps going on to 9°C during the night time. As for the weather; Saturday is looking like the cloudiest day, with the chance of some spits and spots of rain at just about any time. Sunday is looking drier and brighter, although we might just see some fairly heavy showers during the evening and the night.
Surf and the Water
Some really outstanding west-coast surf and maybe a little on the north coast too. The west-coast should be 5-8 feet and super-clean. The north coast might be 1-3 feet, but just as clean. Big tides, with highs of about 9.4m at breakfast time and lows of about 1.1m in the early afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
A very different feeling week indeed. Fresh to strong S’ly winds will bring mostly dry weather, with the exception of a spell of rain on Tuesday. The skies will be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine and the temperatures should fluctuate between daily maxima of around 9-10°C and nightly minima of around 7-8°C.
Surf and the Water
The various highs and lows are perfectly positioned to give us an absolute wealth of clean powerful surf. Surfers will definitely have achy shoulders at the end of this week. Most days will have 3-5 foot waves, but there might be the odd moment that’s slightly smaller and more beginner friendly. Likewise, there might also be a few larger pulses to appeal to the experts. The winds will be good for windsurfing on most days too, but the swimmers will definitely want to seek shelter. High tide will be good at Richmond or L’Ancresse for example, and lower tide should offer the solution.
The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening…
