Monday
Weather
Rather like Sunday, the sunshine will be hazy but unbroken. However, you’ll be glad to hear that it’s a couple of degrees warmer than Sunday, with a lighter E’ly breeze allowing the temperature to reach a much more comfortable max of 11°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-3 feet waves at Vazon and the like. The west coast will also be the best area for swimming, especially at breakfast time when the tide is high. Click across to the tide page for the precise details, but bear in mind that the tide heights will be reduced by about 15cm due to the high atmospheric pressure that we have at the moment.
Tuesday
Weather
Still sunny for the most part, but with a low-pressure system developing in Biscay, we shall see some beautiful high clouds developing through the day, the kind of clouds that can often lead to thunderstorms in the warmer months. However, not much chance of that really at this time of year, although there could just be the odd fat droplet of rain in the late afternoon and evening, if the thickest clouds happen to cross the islands. Max temp… a lovely 13°C (enjoy!).
Surf and the Water
The surf will still be lovely and clean but the waves will only be 2 feet at best, so it’s mainly going to be a day for longboards and SUPs. Swimmers will find good conditions on the north coast as well as the west. High water will be about 9.6m at 8:40am and low water will be about 0.6m at 3pm.
Wednesday
Weather
A continuation of Tuesday’s mix of sunshine and cloudier moments, with the small chance of a shower. However, with that weak low-pressure system moving over the Channel, we will see a change of wind flow, from a gentle to moderate S’ly in the morning, to a very light W’ly in the afternoon and evening. Max temp 11-12°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will likely pick up to 3 feet and be very clean again. Swimmers will generally find the west and north coasts to be the best, although the other coasts should be almost as smooth in the late afternoon when the wind is lightest. As for the tides; the high will be about 9.4m at 9:10am and low water will be about 1m at 3:40pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
As the wind veers to a gentle N’ly on Thursday and then a moderate to fresh NE’ly on Friday, we will see the return of cold air. Temperatures will tumble by a couple of degrees per day, only peaking at 10°C on Thursday and then 8°C on Friday. The weather will be rather cloudy but probably dry, and there could be the odd bright or sunny interval on Thursday morning. The south coast will definitely be the most comfortable place to go for a good walk.
Surf and the Water
The surf has been relentlessly brilliant lately, so maybe these two days, with fairly choppy waves of only 2 feet, would be good days to rest those weary arms and shoulders. Swimmers will find the smoothest water on the south coast. The tidal range will drop off, such that the highs are a little less than 9m in the mid-late mornings. Low water will be in the late afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
Staying rather cloudy but dry and cold (peaking at only 7-8°C), as we maintain the NE’ly airflow. However, it will certainly feel more comfortable by Sunday, as the wind should have become much lighter by then.
Surf and the Water
With a new low in the Atlantic to send us swell, we will probably see another day of 2 feet waves on Saturday and then 4 feet waves on Sunday. Furthermore, it will be increasingly clean, as the wind falls light and then establishes a more offshore flow. The tidal range much smaller again, with highs around noon (less than 8m on Saturday and less than 7m on Sunday).
The next forecast update should be with you on Tuesday evening…
