Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 03/03/2021

Wednesday

Weather

The force 3-4 SSE’ly breeze will steadily ease and veer to a force 2-3 SSW’ly, whilst the skies gradually turn from sunny to rather cloudy, with the chance of a couple of afternoon showers. The temperature will be a little lower than on Tuesday, with a daytime max of just 11°C and an overnight min of 7-8°C.

Surf and the Water

The tides are still pretty massive, with a 9.4m high at 9:10pm, but the waves will be pretty small by recent standards, just 2-3 feet and clean. Swimmers will generally find the best conditions on the west and north coasts, but the east coast should also be nice in the late afternoon.

Thursday

Weather

The breeze will continue to veer around the compass, starting the day as a light NW’ly and finishing off as a moderate NE’ly. The morning skies will be mostly cloudy, but with a few breaks allowing some brighter spells. The afternoon cloud will be a bit thicker and it’s not out of the question that we’ll see a few light showers. The max temp will only be 9-10°C, but the wind should be gentle enough that it’s not too chilly, especially down on the south coast.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be smaller again, 1-2 feet, clean in the morning and then rather choppy in the afternoon. The tide will be low in the afternoon anyway, so best to forget about surfing then and think more about heading to the south coast for a swim.

Friday

Weather

As the NE’ly wind persists and increases to fresh force 5, chilly Scandinavian air will take the temperature down to a mere 6 or 7°C under mostly cloudy skies. So it will be hats and gloves weather again, but you could still salvage a reasonably pleasant walk along the south coast.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be small and choppy, but the south-coast swimming conditions will be nice again, especially at Saints Bay for the mid-morning high tide.

The Weekend

Weather

And that wind will just keep going around the compass, with Saturday bringing a moderate E’ly and Sunday just a gentle SE’ly. As with all the other days, these wind directions will really be in charge of how warm or cold it gets. Saturday will be sunny but very chilly, with temperatures only peaking at about 7°C. Then Sunday will perk up to about 9°C even though the skies will be quite a lot more cloudy.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf on both days; 1 foot at the start of Saturday, picking up to a powerful 3 feet by dusk; then Sunday should be 3-4 feet throughout. Saturday’s tide will be about 7.5m high at 11:30am and Sunday’s will be 6.8m high at 12:40pm on Sunday.

Next Week

Weather

Oh deer, I guess nothing lasts for ever. The relatively dry and settled weather will all be behind us, with a full week of W’ly winds (rather strong at times) and some kind of wetness every day, whether that be isolated squally showers or prolonged spells of rain and drizzle. It’s not all bad though, because the central heating won’t have to work too hard, with temperatures fluctuating between daily highs of 10-12°C and nightly lows of 8-10°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be much bigger than the previous week but also much choppier. Definitely some fun surfing to be done though, and some excellent wind-surfing too. Swimmers should still manage to find pleasant conditions, by sticking to the shelter of Fermain Bay. As for the tides; just small highs of around 7m at the start of the week, picking up to nearly 9m by the end.

The next forecast update should be with you on Thursday or Friday…
