Friday
Weather
The moderate to fresh ENE’ly wind will bring a chilly chunk of Scandinavian air to the Channel. This means that a max temperature of 7°C is all we can hope for, even though the early morning cloud should soon clear to some decent sunny spells and the afternoon should be beautiful . You will still need your hats and gloves, but I dare say that a walk along the more sheltered southern or southwestern coast paths will be very pleasant.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be small and rather choppy in the cross-shore wind, but the swimming conditions will be nice in a few sheltered locations around the mid-morning high tide, specifically the northern corners of West-coast bays such as Vazon, L’Eree and Grande Rocque and Ladies Bay.
Saturday
Weather
Pure sunshine all the way. Very little reduction in the bitter E’ly wind though, meaning that the 6-7°C temperature feels more like 2-3°C. The sky will remain pretty cloudless through the evening, allowing the temperature to take a bit of a tumble and a ground-frost to form in many areas. However, by morning, there’s likely to be quite a lot more cloud so that might well put an end to the frost.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 1-2 feet and a bit cleaner than on Friday, so there could be some lovely longboarding to be done, but don’t forget your hoods. The tide will be about 7.4m high at 11:30am.
Sunday
Weather
A much cloudier day than Saturday, but not without a few decent sunny intervals. No change in temperature, with a 6-7°C max, but probably feeling a little more comfortable as the wind drops to a light force 2-3 NE’ly. If you’re going walking or jogging then head to the south coast for the nicest conditions.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be reasonably clean and it will be a tad bigger (3-4 feet). The south-coast will offer the finest swimming conditions though, especially at Saints Bay for the lunchtime high tide (6.8m at 12:40pm).
Next Week
Weather
Monday will be virtually the same as Sunday in every way, except perhaps that the temperature might climb a degree higher. Then on Tuesday, the wind will veer to a milder S’ly as a low-pressure system approaches from the west. It could still be sunny at times and it’s likely to remain dry until the evening. However, it’s all change after that, with strong W’ly winds bringing squally showers or longer spells of rain and drizzle. It’s not all bad though, because the central heating won’t have to work too hard, with temperatures fluctuating between daily highs of 10-12°C and nightly lows of 8-9°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2-3 feet west-coast waves on Monday and Tuesday, but then much bigger and choppier waves through the rest of the week, which will be particularly good for windsurfing. Swimmers should still manage to find pleasantly smooth conditions though, by sticking to the extreme shelter of Fermain Bay. As for the tides; just small highs of around 7m at the start of the week, picking up to nearly 9m by the end.
The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening…
