Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 08/04/2021

Thursday

Weather

A very gentle S’ly breeze will bring slightly milder air than the previous days, taking us to a max of 10°C which should feel very comfortable. Overnight, the temperatures will drop off to about 4-5°C and there could be a touch of ground-frost in central, southern and western parts.

Surf and the Water

No action what so ever for surfers, windsurfers or kite-surfers, but absolutely gorgeous conditions for paddle-boarding or kayaking. The same smooth water will be lovely for our hard-core sea-swimmers too. Medium-sized tidal range; low water 11:40am, high water 5:40pm.

Friday

Weather

A very gentle NE’ly breeze will probably lead to an increase in bubbly fair weather cloud, but this will do little to change the temperature, so we should reach a max of between 10 and 11°C on this occasion, and once again the lack of wind will mean that it feels very comfortable. During the evening, the cloud will thicken and spread quite suddenly though, as a low pressure system moves up from France, bringing us some persistent and possibly heavy rain later in the night.

Surf and the Water

The water flat and smooth again, perfect for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. The currents will be a little stronger this time though, due to slightly larger tidal movements; low water will be at 12:20pm and high water will be both at 6am and 6:20pm.

The Weekend

Weather

A very wet Saturday morning, with a gentle to moderate N’ly breeze. Then we should have a relatively dry and bright Saturday afternoon, but it will turn cold as the N’ly wind strengthens to fresh force 5; the temperature probably holding back in single figures. Sunday looks just as windy and cold as Saturday, but it should be mostly sunny, with just the odd shower breezing through, possibly catching the islands or possibly sailing by on the horizon. On both days, the south coast will be the most sheltered and therefore the most comfortable place to go for a walk.

Surf and the Water

Very little on offer for our various water lovers. The sea-swimming in the sheltered south-coast bays is pretty much all that I can recommend. The tidal range a bit larger, with lows at lunchtime and highs around dawn and dusk; roughly 8.6m on Saturday and 8.9m on Sunday.

Next Week

Weather

Another relatively chilly week is on the cards. Monday will continue the N’ly airflow from the weekend. It should be dry and mostly sunny though, and the winds gradually easing. Tuesday will see a wind change to a moderate SE’ly, but France has been cold this last week, so the French air will do little to lift our temperatures; 10-11°C the most likely max, with dry weather and a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine. As for the rest of the week; we will see a gradual transition to a SW’ly airflow with more typical April temperatures (mid-teens) and probably just a few passing showers amongst otherwise fine conditions.

Surf and the Water

Tidal range shrinking, surf probably staying flat. Lots of smooth water for swimming and paddle-boarding etc, mainly on the south coast on Monday and then on the west coast from Tuesday Onward.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
