Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 10/04/2021

Saturday

Weather

After such a wet winter, early spring has been so dry that we could actually do with a decent dose of rainy, and that’s what today is all about. Most definitely the most indoorsy day of the weekend. It will be a bit drier and brighter in the afternoon, but it still won’t be that attractive for an outing, with big puddles and a cold NNE’ly wind. Max temp only about 8°C, min temp around 4-5°C.

Surf and the Water

Flat surf and no other obvious opportunities for aquatic fun. If you are a religious sea-swimmer then I’d probably point you towards Saints’ Bay towards dusk, to catch the high tide when there is some hope of slightly better weather.

Sunday

Weather

Some showers early morning and perhaps again towards evening but the rest of the day should be all about the sunshine. It’s going to be chilly though, with a moderate NNE’ly breeze bringing air from Arctic origins (I wouldn’t be too surprised to even see a little hail or sleet in some of those showers). Temperatures about the same as on Saturday despite much nicer weather.

Surf and the Water

Flat surf again, with the only sheltered swimming options being down on the south coast. The tidal range will be fairly large… almost 9m high shortly after dawn and before dusk (low water therefore at lunchtime).

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Both days super sunny. Just a gentle NW’ly breeze on Monday, then pretty much flat calm on Tuesday. This will feel really comfortable relative to the weekend, but night-time temperatures fall low enough for ground frost and daytime temperatures will only just slip into double figures. (UV index of 6, so don’t forget your sun-cream).

Surf and the Water

Still nothing but flatness for surfers. However, if you have a super-keen youngster (around 4-8yo) with a new wetsuit, then you might find some surprisingly useable ripples. Gorgeous conditions for a bit of kayaking or paddle-boarding. Watch out for tidal currents though, as we are in a spring-tide phase thanks to the new moon… highs of slightly over 9m at breakfast time and around dusk; lows in the early afternoons.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

It’s going to be bit of give and take, as a strengthening SE’ly wind brings milder air (temperatures reaching the low teens) but increasingly cloudy skies (Wednesday and early Thursday) and some showery rain (late Thursday and Friday). Wednesday currently looks like the high-point of the week, managing to capture dryness, sunshine and warmth all at the same time.

Surf and the Water

It certainly isn’t set in stone, but there’s a strong possibility that the flat spell could come to an end, blessing surfers with clean 2-foot waves. Keep an eye on the charts… it’s all about getting a greater density of isobars over the Atlantic. Medium-large tides, gradually shrinking… highs in the mid-mornings, lows in the late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday night…
