Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 12/04/2021

Monday

Weather

Most of today’s showers will be carried into Alderney and Normandy, with only a couple managing to briefly catch Guernsey en-route. Apart from that, we are just talking about dryness and sunshine, but with a moderate WNW’ly breeze. Max temp today… only just scraping double figures (maybe 11-12°C in Town), min temp tonight… around 4°C with a risk of ground-frost.

Surf and the Water

With this being the only day of the week when the east coast is most sheltered, it’s great day to go swimming or paddle-boarding in lovely places like Bordeaux. Once again, the west coast surf will be flat. The tide will be high (a little over 9m) at breakfast time and dusk, and low at lunchtime.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Pretty much clear sky day and night throughout. Temperatures won’t climb any higher than 11-12°C by day, and they could fall low enough for ground-frost overnight. The sunshine will be strong between 10am and 2pm (UV 6), so sheltered suntraps will feel lovely but don’t forget your sun cream. Winds will be force 3 E’ly, so the west coast beaches will be in their element; and so will some south coast spots, such as Petit Port and Jaonette Bay.

Surf and the Water

Flat surf again. As for smooth-water activities like swimming and kayaking etc, then with the lightest winds of the week, these days will be pretty good on all coasts, but best of all on the west and south coasts, where the breeze will be offshore. Tides will be high at breakfast time (still around 9m) and low in the early-mid-afternoons.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Plenty more sunshine, but this time with the ENE’ly wind picking up to force 4-5, cloud will bubble up mid-Channel, as the air is squeezed through the Dover Strait. Therefore, the twofold increase in wind and cloud will lead to lower daytime temperatures for us (generally struggling to exceed 10°C). The nights will be a little milder though, probably not dipping below 6 or 7°C, and ground-frost no longer a threat.

Surf and the Water

We will have a tiny increase in west-coast surf but this is likely to be completely undone by the strength of the cross-shore wind. South-coast swimming in crystal-clear water will be the best option by a long shot. Medium-large tides, gradually shrinking… highs in the mid-mornings, lows in the mid-afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

With the wind backing to a due NE’ly, we will probably lose the bubbly cloud. The increase in sunshine is unlikely to lead to a significant increase in temperature though, because we will still be pulling in air of Scandinavian origin. Sheltered suntraps will obviously feel very warm though, so don’t forget your sun-cream if you’re planning on catching some rays.

Surf and the Water

The south coast swimming will continue to be lovely (but chilly obviously). The west-coast surf will probably increase to around 2 feet, but unfortunately remain rather choppy in the cross-shore wind. Medium sized tides, continuing to shrink… highs in the late mornings, lows in the late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday…
