Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 15/04/2021

Thursday

Weather

The max temperature will be a couple of degrees down on Wednesday, only managing to peak between 9 and 10°C. This will mainly be due to colder air being imported on a force 4 NE’ly wind, but there will also be more cloud than on previous days, with a slight chance of catching a brief shower or two. There will be plenty of sunny intervals though, and these will tend to get longer through the afternoon, until sunshine is the dominant feature by dinnertime.

Surf and the Water

There’s due to be a tiny increase in west-coast surf, picking up from flatness to about 1 foot. However, this is likely to be completely spoilt by the cross-shore wind. Meanwhile, south-coast swims will be lovely as ever in the cold but crystal-clear water. High tide will be about 8.6m at 9:20am and low tide will be about 1.7m at 3:40pm.

Friday

Weather

A mainly sunny day, with no further risk of showers. We will still have that chilly force 4 NE’ly wind though, so it’s unlikely that the temperature will climb any higher than 10°C. That said, sheltered suntraps will still feel lovely, especially down on the south coast.

Surf and the Water

There’s a small chance of some tiny but rideable longboard waves on the west coast early morning. Apart from that, the south coast will be lovely and smooth for swimming again, and it could also be good for near-shore kayaking and paddle-boarding.

The Weekend

Weather

A couple of dry and partly sunny days. Some cloudy spells are expected, but just high cloud for the most part, so it will only turn the sunshine hazy rather than blocking it out altogether. The wind will continue to blow from NE’ly direction, so the temperature’s not going to rise significantly. However, that wind will get lighter through Saturday and fall really light on Sunday, so we should gain about one degree per day, and it will certainly feel more comfortable.

Surf and the Water

The surf will pick up to 1-2 feet by the end of Saturday but the cross-shore breeze will still play spoiler. Sunday however should be 2-3 feet and beautifully clean. It’s all going to be a bit weak, with nothing like the power of the March swells, but I’m sure it’s going to be very popular after such a long flat spell. The tidal range will be shrinking though, with a high of only 7.4m late morning Sunday, so it should be surfable throughout the morning, lunchtime and perhaps again in the evening.

Next Week

Weather

Another dry week with a mixture of cloudy spells and hazy sunshine. Winds on Monday will be almost as light as on Sunday, but then we shall pick up that same old nagging ENE’ly from Tuesday onwards. It won’t be particularly strong; only moderate force 4 for the most part. However, that will still be enough to add a chill feeling to the slowly rising temperatures. The max temp should be about 12°C on Monday, and then every day should creep up by about half a degree until we are peaking at 14°C by Friday.

Surf and the Water

Small tides, with the highs at lunchtime to begin with, but creeping further into the afternoons as the week progresses. The south coast will be best for swimming on most days, but the west coast could also be good at times. As for the surfing, we should hang on to those weak 2-3 foot waves through most of the week, but it’s very uncertain whether anything will be left by Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday…
