Guernsey Weather Fox

6-day Forecast. Starting Sunday 18/04/2021

Sunday

Weather

A lovely sunny day, but feeling a bit warmer than the other lovely sunny days of late, due to there barely being a breath of wind. Max daytime temp… 11 or perhaps 12°C, min overnight temp… around 3°C with a ground frost in places.

Surf and Tide

Clean 2-3 feet waves, with small tidal movements (a high of around 7.3m at 10:40am). Lovely glassy conditions on all coasts for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding.

Monday

Weather

As with Sunday, the cloud will be minimal, so sunshine will be the dominant feature of the weather, even if it is a little hazy at times. The wind will be very light again, but coming from the east it does mean that the west coast will feel just a tad warmer than the east. Max daytime temp 12°C, min overnight temp 5-6°C.

Surf and Tide

The surf is looking just a tad smaller but still clean and a whole lot better than nothing. The water will be pretty smooth on the other coasts for other activities, but really the west coast is going to be best for everything on this day, especially with even smaller tidal movements (around 6.9m high at 11:20am).

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Another couple of dry days. Probably a little more cloudy than the previous days, but still allowing plenty of brightness or hazy sunshine. The temperature will continue to peak at 12°C during the daytime and the nights will become slightly milder as the ENE’ly breeze gradually increases to force 3-4 (min temps around 7-8°C).

Surf and Tide

The surf will continue to be about 2 feet and rideable. Probably cleanest on Tuesday then becoming a bit messier as the cross-shore wind increases on Wednesday. The sheltered south coast will generally be best for smooth-water activity on Wednesday. Tiny tidal movements, with highs of around 6.4m at lunchtime.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

It’s always a bit uncertain at this range, but the current expectation is that Thursday will be dry and partly sunny, then Friday will be cloudy with rain likely to arrive by the evening. Temperatures will stay the about the same as on Wednesday (max 12°C, min 8°C), which is a little on the low side for late April, but nowhere near as bad as it was at the start of the month. The wind will freshen up a bit though, meaning that it won’t feel too special (unless you find a sheltered suntrap). On Thursday that wind will be an E’ly and on Friday it will be a SE’ly, so the west coast will generally offer the best shelter on both days.

Surf and Tide

The surf is looking so small on Thursday that it will either be flat or only really rideable for young kids. Friday is less certain, because a new swell looks likely for the weekend and there’s just a chance that it will get here in time to light up Friday. If it does then it’s going to be beautifully clean so it could be a classic way to shake off the working week. The tides will still be on the small side but they will be getting slightly bigger, with highs in the mid to late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Monday evening…
