Friday
Weather
Another day of wall to wall sunshine, but with higher temperatures than on Thursday… this time we should comfortably hit 15°C rather than the just 12°C. Your next wish might be for the wind to clear off, but I’m afraid that wish can’t be granted. Nope, it’s still going to be moderate force 4 to fresh force 5, the only difference being a change of direction from a NE’ly to an E’ly. If you want some shelter to comfortably soak up the sunshine (don’t forget your sun-cream) then best to tuck in nice and close to one of the west-coast sea-walls.
Surf and Tide
Flat surf, but plenty of opportunity for kitesurfing or windsurfing, especially towards the end of the day. The tides will be about 2.8m low at 10:50am and 7.4m high at 4:40pm.
Saturday
Weather
The max temperature will only be 11-12°C on this day, as the wind returns to an ENE’ly direction and blasts at strength of force 5-6 throughout the day. As for the weather, that’s just going to be a simple story of hazy sunshine again.
Surf and Tide
A new swell is due to push in by evening, but it’s obviously going to struggle against the formidable offshore wind. Hopefully we shall see some clean 2-3 feet waves before the day is through, but I fear that this might be a bit more optimistic than realistic. Aside from the waves, it’s obviously going to be good for wind-sports and not very good for swimming. The tides will be about 2m low at 11:30am and about 8.1m high at 5:40pm.
Sunday
Weather
Guess what, dry sunny and perhaps even windier than Saturday. The max temperature a rather pathetic 10°C. The best places to find shelter and relative warmth, will be just beneath the west-coast sea-walls and down at Petit Port on the south coast.
Surf and Tide
Surfers are still crossing fingers and various other body-parts, hoping for clean 2-3 foot waves from Storm Lola down by the Azores. It’s quite a struggle to capture swell from that far south though, so it’s best not to invest too much emotion in the surf forecast. Once again, however, the wind-junkies will be having a field day. Low water will be at lunchtime and the highs will be 8.5m at 6am, then 8.8m at 6:30pm.
Next Week
Weather
Predominantly sunny Monday and Tuesday, with yet more dryness leading to very thirsty gardens. The wind will steadily subside though; Monday’s ENE’ly will be just as strong as Sunday’s, but then Tuesday’s NNE’ly will gradually dribble away to just force 3-4. The only real chance of rain will be some showers that amble southwards on Wednesday, but there is no guarantee that they will hit the islands en-route from England to France. After that, it’s looking like a return to solid sunshine, with an E’ly wind that will hopefully bring a little warmth if it can’t bring any rain.
Surf and Tide
The surf will probably go from small to flat and back again. As for the swimming conditions, well they could be pretty good during that mid-week moment of calm, especially around breakfast time and dusk, when the spring tides will be about 9.8m high.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
