Monday
Weather
I’m sure you’re all fed up of the wind, well this should be the final blast… force 6 NE’ly in the morning and early afternoon, relaxing to force 4-5 for the rest of the day, then force 3-4 later in the night. The sun will shine brilliantly all day, but the temperature will be rather pathetic for late April… just 10-11°C for the max (same as Sunday). Then it’s going to be a chilly night as well, with a mere 5-6°C for the minimum.
Surf and Tide
The only surf that could be worth a bash, is up at Pembroke, where the onshore wind will have howled long and strong enough to whip up something very messy but rideable. Obviously the wind will be great for windsurfers and kite-surfers, but there really won’t be any other water activity worth bothering with (except maybe a quick high-tide swim on the south or west coast). Big tides; roughly 9.2m high at 6:50am and roughly 9.4m high at 7:10pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
These days won’t be much warmer than Monday (probably maxing at 12°C), but the great news is that the winds will be much lighter (just a light force 2-3 N’ly) and we might even have a few showers to provide our gardens with some much-needed water. Those showers won’t move into the area until late on Tuesday night, so Tuesday is looking like another dry and sunny day. Then, on Wednesday, we will have an alternating pattern of cloud and sunshine and the showers will be rather hit-and-miss, with total rainfall adding up to 1-3mm by the end of the day.
Surf and Tide
The surf will most likely be flat I’m afraid. However, the swimming conditions will be pretty good, especially on the south coast. Likewise, the south coast will also be good for kayaking and paddle-boarding on these days, with highs of between 9.7m and 9.9m around breakfast time and dusk.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Whilst the islands lie under a big gap between surrounding weather systems, the wind will be very light and variable in direction. Wednesday’s showers should die out pretty early on Thursday morning and then the skies will be mostly clear. The daytime temperatures will only reach about 13°C but it’s going to feel really comfortable. However, the nights will be cold, probably dropping to around 4-5°C with a possibility of some late-season ground frost.
Surf and Tide
There’s a chance of some small clean surf for kids and longboarders. Otherwise, we are just looking at another couple of good days for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. The tides still very large but starting ease back, with peaks of 9.8m Thursday breakfast time and 9.4m Friday mid-morning.
The Weekend
Weather
Dry and sunny on Saturday, with the temperature maybe climbing to around 14°C. Then slightly cloudier on Sunday, but warmer, as a S’ly airflow starts wafting some French heat in our direction.
Surf and Tide
With a low-pressure system developing very close to the mouth of the Channel, it looks as though some good surf will be just around the corner; probably not peaking until next week, but hopefully starting things off with some clean 3 foot waves on Sunday afternoon/evening. The tides will be high in the late mornings; just a whisker under 9m on Saturday and slightly over 8m on Sunday.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday evening…
