Friday
Weather
A mostly sunny day, with just a gentle N’ly breeze. Only the smallest chance of a shower in the morning and perhaps again at night. A bit warmer than the previous days… max temp in the low teens (which is still very cool compared to last April, but never mind about that). Starry skies overnight, with a min temp 4°C and a ground frost likely.
Surf and the Water
Another day that’s bad for surfing and windsurfing etc, but lovely for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. The wind will be so light in the morning that the water will be super-smooth on all coast, then the south coast will be nicest in the afternoon, when the breeze is just a fraction stronger. High tide will be mid-morning (9.4m) and low tide will be late afternoon (1.3m).
Saturday and Sunday
Weather
Very similar to Friday, with mostly sunny skies and just the smallest risk of a morning shower. The wind will still be light, just a force 2-3 NW’ly, but it will bring slightly cooler air to the islands, so we will probably only reach 11°C on these days. If you want to harness as much heat as possible, for a bit of quality outdoor time, then the south and east coasts will be the best places to go.
As for the overnight periods, probably not quite as cold as the previous nights, but still getting down to around 5°C for the minimum, with the possibility of a ground frost in places.
Surf and the Water
Just a chance of some semi-clean rideable ripples for longboarders and young kids who are learning to surf. The swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding will certainly be the main events though, especially on the south and east coasts. The tides will be high in the late mornings; just a whisker under 9m on Saturday and slightly over 8m on Sunday.
Next Week
Weather
Monday morning might be dry, mild and relatively pleasant, but I’m afraid the strengthening SSW’ly wind will bring ever-thickening cloud and then an evening and night of showery rain. That rain will clear off on Tuesday morning, but we will be left with a force 6 W’ly wind, so it’s not going to feel particularly pleasant when the sun comes out. After that, it’s going to be a bit of a roller-coaster ride through the rest of the working week, with each day seeing a spell of fine and pleasant weather before turning wet and windy again. On the plus side, no more ground-frost, which is great news for growers.
Surf and the Water
Plenty of motion in the ocean, but the waves will probably never get particularly large due to the fast movement of the weather systems, most likely 3-5 feet. Keep an eye on the wind detail, as it will tend to alternate between S’ly or SE’ly and W’ly or NW’ly, so some sessions will be clean as a whistle and others will be a total mess.
The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
