Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting BH Monday 03/05/2021

Monday

Weather

Warmer air will blow in from the SSW, but that wind will become fresh by the afternoon and very strong through the evening and night, so it’s not going to feel too toasty. The sunniest time of day will certainly be the morning so be sure to make the most of that. The afternoon will be increasingly cloudy, but the rain will hold off until the evening, and then we should get a decent dose overnight… 3-6mm to start making up for such a dry April.

Surf and the Water

Perhaps some rideable waves in the evening, but it’s really going to be all about the windsurfing. As for sea-swimming, then the early morning will certain be the moment to seize. High tide, just a small one... roughly 7.3m at midday.

Tuesday

Weather

A fresh W’ly wind will blow a few showers up the Channel, but they will be so few and far between, that we will probably stay dry and simply enjoy a bright and breezy day. Once again, not too toasty though, with top temps of only 12-13°C.

Surf and the Water

The west coast will definitely be best for swimming, closely followed by a couple of south-coast spots such as Saints Bay and Moulin Huet. As for the surfing, well it’s certainly going to be a choppy old mess, but at least it will be about 6 feet rather than only 6 inches. High water; just a tiny 6.8m at 1:20pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Another dry and sunny one, as a ridge of high pressure passes over the area. This means that the wind will shift from a moderate NW’ly in the morning to a gentle SW’ly in the afternoon. Therefore, it should feel quite a bit more comfortable than the previous days, especially on the east coast in the morning and then on the west coast in the afternoon.

Surf and the Water

Smaller surf but still a rideable size, roughly 3-4 feet, choppy in the morning then increasingly clean in the afternoon. High tide just a teeny 6.8m at 3pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Thursday will probably be the wettest day of the week, with roughly double the rainfall of Monday night. However, it should have all cleared eastwards by early afternoon or perhaps sooner, leaving us with a sunny finish to the day, followed by a dry and sunny Friday too. Once again, a ridge of high pressure will pass over the area on Friday, meaning that the wind will be NW’ly in the morning and S’ly in the afternoon.

Surf and the Water

Clean 2-3 foot surf on Thursday morning, then again on Friday afternoon. Hopefully some pretty nice swimming conditions on Friday afternoon too. The tides still on the small side but not quite as small as earlier in the week; peaking at 7.2-7.5m in the late afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

Fresh SSE’ly winds will keep on drawing warmer air over the islands. The daily weather details are a bit uncertain at this range, but it currently looks as though Saturday will be dry and sunny with a max of about 16°C, then Sunday will be showery but similarly warm.

Surf and the Water

Two days of clean and potentially excellent surf; Saturday small to medium in size; Sunday medium to large. I don’t want to jinx it so I’ll leave it at that for now. The tides will be roughly 8m high around dawn and dinner time.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
