Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 06/05/2021

Thursday

Weather

A low-pressure system will move from the mouth of the Channel across to Belgium, going right over the Channel Islands en route. This means persistent rain in the morning with a moderate NE’ly wind, then a cloudy but increasingly dry lunchtime, followed by a mostly sunny afternoon with the wind backing to a NW’ly direction. It certainly won’t be a warm day, but it should feel reasonably comfortable in Town in the afternoon, with a top temperature of 12°C.

Surf and the Water

It’s going to take some proper motivation to go surfing in the rain at dawn, but if you’re up for it then there should be some clean 2 foot waves to play with. As for our sea-swimmers; the south coast should be best for the lunchtime rising tide, and the east coast should be best for the late afternoon high.

Friday

Weather

A sunny morning and a cloudier afternoon. It’s all going to be dry though, that is until after dusk when rain will arrive and stick around for most of the night. The wind will be light and variable during the daytime, which will make the 11-13°C temperature feel much more comfortable than previous days this week. All change overnight though, because with that rain will also come a strong force 6-7 S’ly wind.

Surf and the Water

Lovely swimming conditions on all coasts, and hopefully some really fun surf on the west coast, currently expected to be 2-3 feet and clean. Low water will be at 11am and high water will be at 5pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday is going to be a day of mixed blessings… the overnight rain will soon be replaced by sunshine and it will be warmest day of the week, with a top temp of about 16°C. Regrettably however, the SSW’ly wind will be blasting force 6 for the whole day so it certainly isn’t looking like a flip-flops and swimwear day. Moving on to Sunday, it’s not going to be massively different from Saturday, just a slight increase in cloud and showers, balanced out by a slight decrease in the strength of that SSW’ly wind.

Surf and the Water

Two days of super-clean west-coast surf; Saturday will be small to medium in size; Sunday medium to large. As for the tides, they will be low at lunchtime and high around dawn and dinner time (roughly 8m on Saturday picking up to 8.5m on Sunday).

Next Week

Weather

Another mostly unsettled week; there will most likely be some showers or longer spells of rain every day. However, there will probably be the odd occasion when it all falls during the hours of darkness. As for the wind, Monday’s SW’ly will be just as strong as at the weekend, then Tuesday’s W’ly will probably be even stronger. After that, the wind details are just a bit too uncertain, so better to just keep an eye on the updates for them.

Surf and the Water

Plenty of medium to large surf. Biggish tides; 8.7m-8.9m in the early mornings and late evenings.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
