Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 08/05/2021

Saturday

Weather

Pretty grim at dawn, starting off with a strong SSW’ly wind and a couple of hours of rain. By the time most people have finished choosing breakfast cereal, that rain should have cleared off but we will be stuck with the wind for the rest of the day. On the plus side, that wind will dry up the puddles nice and quick but, on the down side, it will take the edge off the relatively high temperature (max 16°C). The best of the sunshine will be in the afternoon and early evening, then it will probably turn cloudy again towards dusk.

Surf and the Water

Lovely clean west-coast surf… 2-4 feet in the morning, 3-5 feet in the afternoon and evening. Pretty great windsurfing conditions too. Fermain and Havelet will probably be best for sea-swimmers. High tide will be roughly 8m at 5:20am and 5:40pm.

Sunday

Weather

The temperature will be about the same as on Saturday (max 15-16°C), but there will be a bit of give and take… cloudier skies but a much gentler S’ly wind. Every now and then the cloud could thicken up to give a shower or two. Most of these will be very brief and light but they could be more prolonged and heavier in the late afternoon and evening.

Surf and the Water

The windsurfers won’t be too happy but the surfers should be loving the increase in swell… 5-6 feet and clean. High water will be roughly 8.4m at 6am and 6:20pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

A pretty constant fresh force 5 SSW’ly wind will bring a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine and only a couple of brief light showers here and there. Temperatures will peak at about 14-15°C in the afternoons and only drop off to about 10°C during the nights. The most comfortable areas to go for a walk will generally be along the east coast, but it will be pretty lovely in some west-coast areas too, such as around Pleinmont and Richmond.

Surf and the Water

Clean 3-5 foot surf and some reasonably good conditions for windsurfing and kite-surfing. The tidal range will continue to grow, with lows at lunchtime and highs at breakfast and dinner time (roughly 8.6m on Monday and 8.8m on Tuesday).

The Rest of the Week

Weather

Things all become a bit unpredictable at this stage, because a low pressure system is expected to develop right over the top of the Channel Islands on Wednesday, move erratically around the area on Thursday and then move into France on Friday. This means that the wind could spend some time blowing from more or less any direction and this throws huge uncertainty on the cloud and temperature story. One thing that is for sure, is that there will be plenty of showers, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, when they could quite possibly be thundery.

Surf and the Water

The tides will stay on the large side but the surf will gradually get smaller. There could well be some really clean conditions on Wednesday and Thursday, because the winds are likely to be light whilst the low pressure system is almost directly overhead. If this is the case then the swimming and paddle-boarding will also be lovely. It’s all very uncertain though, so best to keep a sharp eye on the updates.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
