Wednesday
Weather
Apart from the chance of a shower in the early morning, it should be a dry and beautifully sunny day. However, there will be a moderate to fresh WNW’ly wind which will take the edge off the temperature. Max temperature 13°C in exposed areas and 14°C in Town and other sheltered eastern spots.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be choppy and sloppy (3-4 feet), but the swimming conditions will be nice and smooth at the east-coast beaches and probably in a few south-coast nooks as well. High water will be just 6.9m at 12:10pm.
Thursday
Weather
Cloudy but mostly dry, just the odd spit and spot of light rain or drizzle, mainly in the afternoon and early evening. The wind will be from the S, which means the air will be milder (max temp 15°C) but it will be blowing fresh F5 to strong F6, so it’s not going to feel very special I’m afraid. Overnight, the wind will veer SW’ly and get even stronger, so it might be a good idea to pack up any lightweight garden furniture.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 1-3 feet and clean, probably best in the morning when the wind is lightest (likewise for the smoothest swimming conditions). High water will be just 6.9m at 1:30pm.
Friday
Weather
A very windy day, with a strong F7 WSW’ly. As for the weather, it’s going to be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, with just the odd brief shower during the daytime and then more frequent showers during the night.
Surf and the Water
A huge swell will mean that the surfing should be left to the experts only, mainly up on the north coast. As for the swimming, I think it’s only going to be Fermain that’s sufficiently sheltered. High water 7.2m at 2:50pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Not nearly as windy as Friday, but still rather brisk (a force 5 W’ly) so it’s not going to feel very warm (max temps 13°C). Sunshine and showers on both days. The timings are little uncertain, but it currently looks as though the showers will be mainly in the mornings and evenings, leaving the best of the sunshine for the afternoons.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 6-7 foot surf on Saturday, dropping off to about 5 feet on Sunday. Medium-sized tides, with lows in the mid-mornings and highs in the late afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
As always, the details at the back end of the forecast are rather uncertain, but the broad story is that high pressure is going to develop over the UK, restoring dry and settled weather to the islands after the last of the W’ly winds and showers on Monday and Tuesday. The wind direction will then change to an ENE’ly, which will not be desperately warm, but with lots of sunshine and just light to moderate breezes, we should manage daily temperatures in the mid-high teens, which is 2-3 degrees higher than most days this week.
Surf and the Water
Big tides, with highs of over 9m on most days (early mornings and late evenings). The surf will probably be 3-5 feet and choppy on Monday and Tuesday, becoming 2-3 feet and clean through the rest of the week
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening.
