Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Friday 21/05/2021

Friday

Weather

No improvement in this forecast I’m afraid, we are still on track for a full day of strong force 7 WSW’ly winds (perhaps occasionally gale force 8). Yes it’s going to be blowing such a hooley that you probably won’t be that bothered whether it’s sunny or not, but for the record yes it should be sunny for the majority of the day, with just a few showers in the first half of the morning and then in the late afternoon and evening. Max temps 13°C, but feeling much cooler than that. Best head to Town or to the super-sheltered Fermain, if you want to feel remotely warm.

Surf and the Water

The surf will get very big and messy, possibly big enough to be surfable at L’Ancresse, but I really think it will be too windy for anybody that isn’t an expert. As for the swimming, well I think that Fermain will be the only place that’s sufficiently sheltered. Small tidal movements, with low water at breakfast time and at dusk and high water in the early afternoon.

Saturday

Weather

Mercifully, the wind will relax a little, veering to a fresh force 5 WNW’ly. The temperature will stay on the chilly side, only just nudging up to 13°C thanks to some afternoon sunshine. It won’t feel so nice in the morning though, with about 3-5mm of rain falling from a rash of heavy showers.

Surf and the Water

Maybe some fun novelty surf on the South Coast in the morning and evening. Otherwise, it’s probably just an afternoon swim at Fermain or Havelet that I can recommend. High water will be about 7.6m at 4pm.

Sunday

Weather

In opposition to Saturday, we will probably have some brightness in the morning, but the afternoon will be wiped out by cloudy skies and bouts of heavy rain. The wind will be stronger than Saturday, but not quite as brutal as Friday; this time it will be a strong force 6 SSW’ly. Max temperature just 13°C yet again.

Surf and the Water

Much cleaner west-coast surf on this day, but it’s only going to be quite small I’m afraid… just 2-4 feet. The tidal range will be quite a bit bigger though, with a low of about 2.3m at 11am and a high of about 8.3m 5pm.

Next Week

Weather

A definite improvement compared to this current week… less wind, less rain and slightly higher temperatures. The changes will be gradual though; Monday will still have a strong force 6 W’ly wind, but the showers will be few and far between; then Tuesday will see a wind-change to a fresh force 5 NW’ly and we should see nothing but sunshine; Wednesday should be super sunny again, with the NW’ly wind dropping off to light force 3; then Thursday and Friday should see the arrival of a gentle NE’ly breeze as a high-pressure system hopefully establishes itself over Britain.

Surf and the Water

Big tides, with highs of over 9m on most days (early mornings and late evenings). The surf will probably be 3-5 feet and choppy on Monday and Tuesday, becoming 1-3 feet and clean on Wednesday and possibly flat by Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
