Monday
Weather
The most constant feature will be the strong force 6 wind; starting from a SW’ly direction but veering to a W’ly by lunchtime. Whilst that’s blowing steadily, the weather will be up-and-down like a seesaw, alternating between bright spells and hoofing great showers of rain or hail. The current expectation is that these showers will be most frequent in the morning and evening, meaning that we might just salvage a few hours of consistent dryness during the afternoon.
Surf and the Water
Semi-clean medium-sized surf early morning, becoming very messy by lunchtime and very big in the evening. Looking for a sheltered swim-spot? You couldn’t do much better than Fermain or Havelet around the times of high tide… the really hardcore option will be around 5:20am (8.6m) and the slightly softer option will be around 5:50pm (8.8m).
Tuesday
Weather
This day is the halfway house between Monday’s hideous weather and much finer conditions in the second half of the week. Starting with the wind; just a slight improvement there… probably a fresh force 5 WNW’ly throughout the day. As for the weather, we are probably looking at dry and partly sunny conditions until mid-late afternoon, when we shall see the arrival of a rather prolonged spell of rain and drizzle.
Surf and the Water
Very messy surf on the west-coast I’m afraid. If you are still tempted then I can tell you that the waves will probably be about 6 feet all day. Once again, if you’re into swimming then high tide will be best at Fermain or Havelet (9m at 6:20am and 9.2m at 6:40pm).
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Three straight-forwardly dry days with lots of sunshine. The wind gradually decreasing and changing direction, thereby allowing the temperature to return to the climatological average. Wednesday will have a light force 3 to moderate force 4 W’ly, so Town should scoop the top temperature of 14-15°C. Thursday will then have very light and variable breezes (barely noticeable) allowing all parts of the island to comfortably hit 15°C or maybe even 16°C with a bit of luck. Friday should then climb to 16 or 17°C, as an E’ly breeze establishes and starts to pull in a little extra heat from France.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-3 foot surf throughout this period. Big tidal movements, with highs of 9.3-9.6m in the early mornings and late evenings.
The Weekend
Weather
We are sure to maintain the dry and sunny conditions. The temperature will be determined by the wind. If it carries on as a light to moderate E’ly, then the temperature should climb just as high as on Friday or perhaps even higher. If it backs to a NE’ly direction then it will lead to a bit of a downturn. Either way, it promises to be a lot better for outdoor activity than the weekend we’ve just had.
Surf and the Water
We should start to see a noticeable increase in water temperature, possibly getting up to 14°C. The surf is rather uncertain I’m afraid; I think we can be sure that it won’t be big; the question is whether it will be small and clean or totally flat.
The next update should be with you on Tuesday or Wednesday…
