Friday
Weather
The last couple of days have been a bit cloudier than expected, with the morning cloud never quite managing to burn off to give a full afternoon of sunshine. The expectation for Friday is the same (cloudy morning followed by sunny afternoon) but I’m afraid to say that it is equally uncertain. However, even if the sunshine is in short supply again, it should still feel very pleasant, with the same 16-17°C max as on Thursday. For the very best of it, head down to the south coast, where the force 3 NW’ly breeze will be barely noticeable.
Surf and the Water
Sloppy 1-2 feet waves for the kids at the surf-schools etc, but probably just a well-earned day of rest for the older and more experienced surfers. As for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding; well that should be lovely on the south and east coasts again. The tidal range will be nice and small, with a low of just over 3m at 9:10am followed by a high of just under 7m at 3:10pm.
Saturday
Weather
With a ridge of high pressure right over the top of us, it’s looking much more certain to be sunny. The NW’ly breeze won’t bring very warm air to the islands, but it will be so light that sunshine will soon raise the temperature to a respectable 17-18°C. Watch out for sunburn though because, under cloudless skies, the UV index will be as high as 8 during the middle of the day.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be tiny but it could still be rideable for the youngest learners. As for the swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding; well that’s going to be gorgeous in every part of the island, so the tide will really be the only factor when deciding where to go… 3m low at 10:10am and 7.2m high at 4:!0pm.
Sunday
Weather
With the wind still very light but coming from a due N’ly direction, there is slight chance that some mid-Channel sea-fog could drift over the islands. That’s all a bit uncertain though, because the sea has warmed up a bit over the past week, and this might just be enough to break up the mist and lift it into cloud. Either way, it’s not looking as bright as Saturday, so the max temperature will probably be a degree lower.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2-3 foot surf on the west coast, and yet more lovely conditions for sea-swimmers, kayakers and paddle-boarders (especially down on the south coast. The tidal range will be slightly larger, with a low of 2.8m at 11am high of 7.4m at 5pm
Next Week
Weather
A dry and mostly sunny week, just the odd cloudy spell here and there. The wind staying very light; N’ly to begin with, but gradually veering NE’ly as the week progresses. This will lead to a very slow rise in temperature, with daily maxima starting in the mid-high teens and probably finishing around the magic 20°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-3 foot surf on the west coast. Lovely smooth water in most areas (but particularly on the south coast) for other activities like kayaking and coasteering etc. Medium-large tides; highs around breakfast time and dinner time (8m-8.5m), lows around lunchtime.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
