Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Monday will be just as cloudless as Sunday, with a stonking high UV of 8, so it will be very important to slap on the lotion or to wear light pyjama-like clothing. In most parts of the island, the temperature should peak at the same 21-22°C as on Sunday, but in Town it will be noticeably warmer due to a change of wind direction. Sunday’s onshore E’ly breeze having capped the temperature at 20-21°C, but Monday’s offshore NW’ly allowing the St Peter Port temperature to hit 23 or perhaps even 24°C. Thankfully, the night-time will be a tad cooler, with a minimum of 13°C we might even manage to get a good night’s sleep. Moving on to Tuesday, it will be almost the same, except that the sunshine will be more hazy, due to some fairly thick high cloud. This, along with a gentle NE’ly breeze, will probably cap temperatures at 19-20°C in the far north of the island and 21-22°C in the far south.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1 foot waves on Monday morning, picking up to 2 feet by late evening, then holding around 3 feet throughout Tuesday. Lovely smooth water for swimming and other activities, especially down on the south coast in the afternoon. High tides at late morning and dusk. Low tide mid-afternoon.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Wednesday should be sunny and very warm in the morning, becoming cloudy and humid in the afternoon, before thundery showers move across the area through the evening and night. Thursday morning should remain cloudy and showers, although the risk of thunder will probably have diminished. Then things should become drier and a little brighter through the afternoon, and that situation should hold through Friday daytime, until showers probably return on Friday night. Throughout these three days, the temperature trend will be downwards (20°C max on Wednesday, then 18°C on Thursday and Friday). However, the wind will remain light and comfortable (NE’ly on Wednesday, NWly on Thursday, then due N’ly on Friday).
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be 3-4 feet and clean through the majority of period, but it might increase to as much as 5 or 6 feet on Thursday, making it the most solid day of surf that we have seen for a while. The wind will not be strong enough to make a mess of onshore coasts. However, the south coast, where the wind is offshore, will always have the smoothest water for swimming and kayaking etc. Medium-small tides with highs around noon.
The Weekend
Weather
The back end of the forecast is always a little uncertain, but looks as though we will most likely see the return of low-pressure systems, moving over the UK from the Atlantic, bringing SW’ly winds and one or two soggy weather-fronts. There is a chance that this airflow could be as misty and drizzly as some of the days we saw last week. However, it’s much more likely to just be a little showery, with moderate winds and decidedly average temperatures (which, on the cusp of the summer solstice, really isn’t going to feel too bad).
Surf and the Water
The west-coast waves will be 2-3 feet and reasonably clean for the majority of the weekend. The east coast is looking like the best area for other activity on the water. Medium-small tides, with lows around breakfast time and highs in the mid-afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
